Show A COOLING CODLING MOTH CATCHER MT CHEi mr air nepha jeppersen of dear river city called at the news office yesterday and incidentally save gave a little liis bla tory of an invention lor for which he has made application for patent which if successful success lul should work a revolution in the orchards the invention Is a device to catch codling moth and other insect pests that play havoc wit with the orchards I 1 the catcher Is s a simple arrangement and its practicability C was worked out by sir air jeppersen Jepper seu during two years of experimentation with lith a coil oil can and common glass tumbler it consists of a sheet iron pan whose sides flake flare out gently the rim curnin g sharp ly back toward the glass sides of the top the top islade Is made of sheet iron iou also with glass sides which slope slop eap p about atthe parne angle as leal leaving n g as asdall mall opening enan where cherim of the pan projects back and downward the top is made tight with the exception of a small vent and a lighted oil lamp is placed on the inside in the pan unde r the lamp will be a fluid like spray material or some other poison and when the catcher Is placed in 1 a I tree and the lamp lighted the moth and other insects are attracted to the glass with the result that when they strike against the glass sides they are naturally precipitated onto the faring daring rim of the pan from whence they slide by their own momentum or gravity as it may be termed into the poisonous liquid below which destroys them sir mr jeppersen has given the device a thorough test and is satisfied that the scheme will lie ile has caught so man y insects in his crude apparatus that the machine got clogged and he had to clean it out within a few hours of operation the catchers will be made by mr air ellswood the tinner and may purchase the in at cost to experiment with lor for their own satisfaction and a little later on mr air jeppesen expects to form a company to manufacture them on a large scale |
