Show I have a six year-old horse with an enlargement about the size of a turkey egg; just above the fetlock fet-lock on the back side of the hind leg. It seems to be the cords or tendons. He limps slightly while in motion, and when standing, he usually rests that leg by tipping the ankle forward and resting lightly on the toe. Can I do something to remove re-move the enlargement and cure the lam ncss? II. M. TAYLOR, Red Mesa, Colo. w m Answer By Dr. Frederick. Injured Tendons. Jt is probable from your description, descript-ion, that your animal has had a rupture rupt-ure of the back tendons of the leg at some time, this having healed together to-gether and causing contraction. I would advise a thorough application of the following ointment, after the part has been thoroughly cleaned and dried. Red iodide or mercury, one part, cantharidics, one part, croton oil, twenty drops, vaseline, eight parts. Mix together and apply by thorough rubbing for ten minutes so that it will penetrate the pores of the skin. A second app'ication can be applied in four or five days after the swelling has subsided. If the hair and skin begins to come off, use soap and warm water to wash the part, and apply vaseline. If this docs not overcome the condition, firing will be the last resort and should oulv be attempted by a competent veterinarian. veteri-narian. - |
