Show NORTHERN APPLE PRIZES. Michael Horan, an orchardist of Wenatchee, was awarded a prize of $1000 for the best apple carload exhibit ex-hibit at the National Apple Show, held recently in Spokane. H. M. Gilbert of North Yakima, formerly president of the Washington Horticultural Horti-cultural Association, was " given the second prize Qf $500 ifor. a car .con taining 70,560 Wincsap apples, Messrs. Kress & Carey of Montana received the third prize of $200 for J'j ' the best car of Macintosh Reds. i P Horan will receive almost $8000 y for his carload exhibit. In addition ( A to the $1000 prjzc, he won a prize of $200 offered by W. A. Clark, and $225 from a spraying company. James J. Hill, chairman of the board of the Great Northern Railway Co., and Louis W. Hill, president of that system, have bought 150 boxes for $1500. The fruit brought from Horan i to be sent to Ncw York and Boston for exhibition, afterward going to London. King Edward and members mem-bers of the House of Lords arc to receive boxes of apples as presents. About $33,300 was given in premiums prem-iums to growers in other competitions, competit-ions, representing practically -every belt in the country. The Wenatchee district carried off the majority of first prizes, including one for it he largest perfect apple. |
