Show Spokane was awarded the National apple show for 1909 by the board of trustees, headed by E. F. Carticr Van Disscll of Spokane, at a joint meeting of that 'organization with the Spokane chamber of commerce and the local board of control of the 17th National litigation Con-1 Con-1 grcss. Preliminary plans were an nounced for a larger and more complete com-plete exhibition of the king of fruit than the one in this city last December, Decem-ber, when cash prizes and premiums aggregating $35ooo were awarded to growers in the United States and Canada. Orchardists in all parts of the world will 'be invited to compete, and it is Qxpcctcd the prize list wI represent repre-sent more than $50,000, in addition to- trophies, cups and special awards. By making it international in scope and character next fall its educational educa-tional value to fruit growers will be increased. That is the primary idea. Tt is the opinion of experts that wid-q&knovlcdgc wid-q&knovlcdgc of apple growing, packing pack-ing -and marketing is necessary, cs racially since American growers are looking "to Europe nnV the Orient for- trade. |
