plen ticul and luscious the fruit display was second only to the state stale fair ex hibit the live stock was perfection P arc f won it self the eating houses and ill lunch arc stands were better supplied with good things to eat cat and the hie Ni visitors were ible to get all they wanted to eat there was no dissatisfaction but ev who came had the time of 0 their lives what more could be said arid and yet the halt half has not lieen been told the best place to begin in fit telling of the lie big peach day is at tile the very beginning Al so we will go mackto the selection election of the executive committee in the years past the box elder C club lias has perpetuated f sach ach day and made a success of the institution ily by the efforts of the club tile day has come to be a state festival and our round of state holidays would not be complete without peach day cut but as it Is the case ill all through life there have been many who were ere not converted to the idea of holding peach day and tile the commercial club has bas had pretty liard hard work sometimes in carrying on the celebration some had the idea that the club was making a commercial enterprise out of the day at the expense of the fruit groaners and citizens generally and hence have not lent their hearty support which Is so necessary when a community is giving a public celebration principally tor for this reason the commercial iner cial club declined to lead out in the matter of bacch day this year further than to call a meeting of the club members fruit growers and members of the bear river valley commercial club with a view of in parties in the festival de aided to vest the responsibility of f getting up tip the celebration in an elc autive committee composed of three members of tile the commercial club three members of the fruit Gro growers Ners association of this city and throe three members of the bear river valley commercial club tile the ruen roen chosen age were N C simonsen A nd worked faithfully for the success tile day each man doing his part and ill the celebration proved what can bo be when hen all hands pull together the executive and all other committees are arc certainly to be commended for their untiring efforts and the big results which accrued there atom mr simonsen was made secretary of tho the executive committee and later appointed manager lie he hai ha I 1 big load to carry but bore bord it Ath fully and well and to him bin Is due it a large share of the credit for the ful handling of the croc crowds ds the city fathers are also to be commended for the manner in which they had the streets cleaned off and thoroughly sprinkled for once forest street was good and damp when the crowds crowd arrived the firemen were out the night before and soaked things up tilt in great shape chape main street was damp all day long there was v aa no dust nd the day was just warm enough to hi pleasant but not hot enough to be uncomfortable bo that nature aup too as well as other fruits the big feature ot of the day free peaches excepted of course was the parade and the exhibits therein made were of it a character that would do credit to any of the largest cities in I 1 the nation the pageant moved off promptly from market square and by 1130 was passing the court house the lineup line up was as is follows sheriff joe josephson mounted military growers rowers association with two magnificent floats of peaches apples and other fruits brigham city fruit growers association with float with girls wrapping peaches pea clies and throwing them to fixtures float and the general populace the floats were handsome and descriptive each worthy of special mention but space will not permit we must say something of the hie cement house however lioN Never tor for it was something of a marvel and was constructed entirely of the material composing the worthless barrens the design was drawn by an all ogdon ogden architect and showed a handsome roomy two story dwelling of colonial type with cement walks lawns and arbor surroundings the whole enclosed by a cement fence the plastering and decorating on the house was done by holland brothers and speaks well of their ability as craftsman the cement co was asked by the board of directors of the state fair who were bele yesterday to send scud the float down to salt lale lake as one of the permanent exhibits which will ill be coite thi float was left standing on lorest forest street throughout the day where it was inspected and adin admired tred by the thousands of 0 visitors immediately after tile the parade the program was carried out on the spacious platform on slain main street chairman F W V I ishburn of the program committee made a happy speech in presenting the vailous speakers and the fol following loNIng gentlemen made short addresses mayor T 11 blackburn gov wm win spry and judge frick of the supreme court I 1 cach ach made a felicit ious speech on oil the good things in brigham and loi box aider county governor spry was very complimentary in his remarks and was cheered to the echo the indian war dance was a little late in setting getting started tho the braves moved about on the platform with something of their old time vigor but it was very evident that the ways ays 0 peace plowing harvesting chopping wood and the like have had a great effect upon their airm live tile the dance was waa typical but not very ery blood curdling 1 the liall ball raine game was waa the beat ever played in the city tho the score stood 10 1 0 favor of the allstar all star nine from salt lake and that was made when the game was wag over halt half finished the wellsville ironman were ere assisted by Rani hanishaw shaw in left garden and W morgon morgan deal v of ID had been in ili cold storage for a week A most interesting coiner of the exhibit was that occupied by prof W W mclaughlin cLaughlin I of the experiment station at logan and his associates who have been conducting experiments during the summer at the valentine orchard in irrigation peaches were shown that MA had not had tiny NW until the month of augusti august and there was little more than the stone and skin shin then irrigation was applied vigorously with the result that in eleven days a large cial peach was developed the experiments peri ments were illustrated on colored plates so that the visitors had no trouble in following the work which had all been done the governor and state officials were very much interested in the experiments and had the illustrators go over the were glorious especially good was the apple exhibit which was also made in fit the parade something unique and catchy mr air E U 13 cordon of willard the veteran peach grower who has never dever failed to get the blue ribbon at tile state fair had a box of peaches in tile the exhibit that would certainly have taken first prize but for the fact that they were wilted the fruit had been picked over a week and was on display at willard last week from thele it was taken to the cold storage car in this city bit but the peaches had already begun to wilt a little the box received complimentary mention by the judges and was admired by the visitors sir air david marsh of willard ill so had some beautiful peaches on exhibition which were worthy a prize but for the fact that their fies freshness liness had been impaired by having been picked for some time the willard fruit was larger than any on display another feature of tile the day that was most commendable and which pleased all who come came within its scope was as the distribution or of luscious peaches on the trains that passed through this city during the day beautiful young ladies more luscious than peaches handed out the fruit and the expires slon sion of satisfaction as well as surprise on the faces of the passengers told how they appreciated the compliment ment t the live stock exhibit was a plize winner throughout it included blooded perch cron stallions mares and colts belgian stallion standard bred drivers fancy saddlers blooded bulls cows and calves and blooded sheep tile the showing was excellent and tile gentlemen who made the exhibits are deserving great credit for the labor they expended I 1 in getting their stock to this city that the tha visitors might see something good in the way of pure bred horses cattle and sheep all the sandwich stands did a jiniv ing business as did the r restaurants cafes and hotel there was plenty to cat for everybody of tho ill substantial foods so that peet and wife of salt lake city were in the throng there were many tourists front from various parts of the country who to were passing through salt lake city and made a side trip to brigham Brigha ui to see sec a real peach day many of them called at the bureau of information and asked innumerable questions as well as spoke their surprise and pleasure at what they were receiving the day was a rand
