the bystanders as follows it seems from reports loi persons living near harlem kennedys Kenn edys wood and coal yard where old man maa dark clark bad been livin living forma tor many nymo months that clark has been U in the habit of enticing little girls to his bis q quarters u arters and feeding them on candy and other ocher toothsome nien acs this was not known to harlem kennedy the proprietors prie tors who out of charity had the old man shelter and allowed men im the room and the use of wood for cooking purposes free of rent or charge but there were other parties in the neighborhood that had bad often seen little girls enter darks clarks bedroom and remain there some sometime time the 0 old I 1 d man here bere so far as these parties knew a good reputation and they thought he merely got get the children there to give them candy and treat them because he was so fond of children but the frequent visits of the nine year old girl whose father gave dark clark the beating aroused the suspicions of the neighbors and yesterday as the little girl entered the old mans room a friend of the girls father immediately went land notified the childs parent the father came down and finding his little daughter still in darks clarks room where she had been for some seme time he asked dark clark what he meant by such conduct dark clark said he liked little children andl had merely called her in to give her some candy but demanded the irate parent what right have you to be continually calling my little girl from the street whenever she passes on an errand and keeping her here alone in this room with yourself the old man tried to explain but could not do tl the case justice and the father of the little girl knocked dark clark down and would have kicked the life out of him but for the timely interference ot ol kennedy harlem and llo 1103 d the old man apte picked ked himself up and the father of the child left the room harlem and kennedy then demanded of old man dark clark that
