SYLVIA E OLD-TIMER- S By Jane Bergen The ability to adjust readily to new conditions, as adaptability may be briefly described, is an important success trait. The ability to adapt, combines the influences of alertness, perceptiveness, progressiveness and ingenuity. Some people And greet difficulty in being able to adapt to changing conditions and situations. Adaptability represents a flexible mode of thinking and behavior which stimulates purposeful action. In a new environment or one involving constant changes, the adaptable person sets about acquainting himself or herself with whatever is unfamiliar and tries to get it working for them. It is learning to cope. New situations are appraised quickly, if possible. Sometimes this appraisal is picked up mentally, then evaluation begins. The adaptable person may well be amenable also. Agreeability usually does go along with social adaptability. But a person may be able to cope effectively with new situations of many kinds and yet possess a sensitive, easily attitude and have an unsociable ;hurt, disposition. There are also conservative people, who avoid change of any kind. They dislike meeting new people, learning new ways of living, eating different kinds of food, facing new philosophies, and unfamiliar working conditions. a person feds, with a pleasant The more attitude, a desire to be sociable, with an interest in his environment and in the community he lives in, the easier it will be to adapt to new surroundings. A persons attitude can open or close doors for them. David D. Cardwell edebrated his birthday in June. He is employed by a publications company, and likes his job. The four and square" small rs in the word, Birthday years," is a clue to his mechanical skill. The capital letters in his writing, stand alone and do not touch the next small word indicating observancy, originality, and some intuitive talent. David is cooperative, loyal to who and what he believes in and takes pride in his working achievements. The final or ending of the small upper looped ds" do not come down to the imaginary writing line (see arrows pointing), indicating that he is having a problem making up his mind or coming to a satisfactory decision. He is probably wondering how he is going to adapt to some new situation or issue he must decide upon one way or the other. He is concerned. When he makes up his mind, the final or end of his small letter ds" will be written below or down to the writing line. David likes his name and has written it so that recognition of the capital and small letters are easily read. A persons name is their identification and should be written so that it can be read easily, not hidden in a maze of up and down strokes or circles. The tree is fertile, with lots of foliage. Activity is enjoyed, and he is always ready to help when needed. The crown of the tree is high exhibiting a search for knowledge. This is excellent. There is more foliage on the left side of the tree' than there is on the right picturing David as a cautious, thoughtful person, who is likely to get upset about little things.
