Bonneville, a long time power in prep track and field, will again be a favorite to capture the team title. But the critics cant count out the Clearfield Falcons, who went through the duel meet season undefeated and in an impressive way. These schools might be considered for a two-tearace for the championship, but John Flint doesnt quite agree. Anything can happen when it comes time for a region championship. The two events get underway on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. At that time the girls shot put, long jump, high jump and the boys javelin and pole vault will start. In addition, the girls 100 meter hurdles will also get started. The remainder of the Thursday events run until 4:40 that evening. On Friday the events get started at 1:00 and run until 5:35 that evening. TIM GOOCH, 0 Lancer Todd Vigil gave up four scattered hits in shutting out the Royals on their own Diamond, Thursday. The losing pitcher was Roys Bert Rich, who allowed six Layton hits. The Lancers made three runs on six hits, while leaving eight men stranded on base. Roy was scoreless on four hits, and left six men on base. The Royals committed two errors in the game. Hitting for Layton was Brighshoe (two hits), Gallegos, Burke, Vigil and For Roy, Ken Huddleston, Brad McCaulley, Kenny Tulane and Paul Hansen rapped out singles. 5 Clearfield Scott Frew spotted Roy four runs . in two innings, and then settled dpwnv to hold the Royals as his Falcons scored twelve runs in four innings and beat Roy by seven. Eight Clearfield batters got hits, as the Falcons collected seventeen hits, for twelve runs, left six men on base and committed four errors. The Royals, after a big second inning, scored a run in the third and one in the fourth, but it wasnt enough. Eleven Royals were left stranded on base, which is an attribute to the clutch 12-R- pitching and excellent defense exhibited by the Falcons. Todd Vernon led the Falcon barrage with three single on four trips to the plate, Shane Openshaw tripled and singled in two times at bat, and Scott Frew doubled in two times at bat. Hitting singles were Gibbs (2) Laboto (2) Perkins-(2- ) Prothero (2) .
