Somewhere between the uncanny desire to become great and the pinacle of greatness itself is the trek of Clearfield gymnast Lori Johnston. Johnston, a senior at Clearfield, never quite visualized the day that she could be contending for the title of Outstanding Gymnast" among six of the largest high schools in Northern Utah. But without question, today its a reality. The Falcons, led by Sid Conley and Paul Quigley as coaches, with Lori and her teammates behind them, are marching boldly toward another Region One team championship. Without Loris leadership I doubt wed be where we are today, said Coach Conley. Of course the feeling is mutual with Lori. When I was a sophomore, I didnt know a thing. Sid taught me the basics and Paul taught me some tricks, but I never dreamed Id be this far today, the senior Falcon admitted. As a junior, Lori put a stamp of seriousness on her gymnastics performances by taking second in Region One In doing so she placed very high in floor and vault events while taking first place in compulsory beam. As a senior, she was selected as a team captain. In thebeginning of the year, eight hours of practice a day amount of was not an uncommon time to be devoted towards the sport. Now in the season, perhaps three or four is what it takes. Top all that practice time upon the numerous school activities shes involved in and it may give you a headache thinking about it. The coach further stated, I cant remember Lori having a bad meet, consistency is another trait shes mastered. When it comes time to compete in the state meet, Loris only goal is to place among the best in the state. Of course experience is the only thing that will beat her and shes ready to accept that. I wish I could have started sooner. Experience is the key in this sport and the sooner you start, the better off youll be, she said. Brigham Young University is already impressed with the small 1 bundle of gymnastics talent that Lori represents, impressed enough to provide her a scholarship to compete , at her school. ji? new big game hunting questionnarie is being used by the "Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.
