' Scott Wallace has a unique rags to riches story. Last season he barely made the team being told if he worked hard he could eventually develop into a key player. Scott went home not a member of the team but returned later that evening to a late practice asking to be reactivated. He was given his chance, said Hansen, Scott worked as as hard during the anyone Ive ever seen and now he stands in position to be our top center. Hell be an asset to us. Dan Perkins stands under 0 but will be a starting forward for Clearfield. He will be aided in the forward line by Jeff Gorringe who along with Hicks were the only two to letter as juniors. Cory Schofield stands 4 and Hansen feels he could be starter before the year is out. Troy Weeks is another one who has worked hard during the offseason and will be the Falcons Gardner. back-u- p Its been, a tradition at Gearfield for the past few years Two juniors will see a good amount of varsity action and they include Freddie Cook and Troy Nye, Cook may be one of the best junior athletes at Clearfield after transfering from Layton, Nye was one of the top sophomore players from a year ago. Hansen expects Sky View to dominate league play with four of their main six players returning from last years state consolation team. I see the rest of the region fairly balanced. I will say that this is the kind of region where any team could beat any other squad on any given night, stated Hansen. Hansen is excited about the Florence winding layups in Clearfield High basketball any more, in fact you fans may not see anything but the fastest Falcons on foot. The world is quick according to head coach, Craig Hansen. Clearfield without question this season will sport the quickest team in the league with the likes of quick-gu- n Hicks, quick-foBoar den, and even quick-boun- d Gorringe. All of this will come about in the finest and most modern gymnasium in Region One. The Falcons will debut this 1979-8- 0 season in a brand new basketball facility and try to keep alive their winning cage traditions. Hansen has kept seven seniors and seven juniors for the new campaign which gets underway in late November. Clearfield hosted Kearns in their first ot pre-seas- tilt last Friday. The seven seniors include Brook Hicks, Dan Perkins, Scott Wallace, Jeff Gorringe, Greg Boarden, Cory Schofield and Troy Weeks. The seven juniors who made the squad are Troy Nye, Freddy Cook, Mike Masero, to place a lot of emphasis on seniors in .the basketball program. Were no different this year, said Hansen, Weve got seven seniors and they. 11 be seeing most of the action. We feel after a player has been in the program three years, heshould have most of the experience and is usually the best player for us. Well have a competitive team this year but wont be anyones choice to win the league. The Falcons could start four which doesnt players under seem to bother Hansen who has seen past Clearfield teams in the same predicament and still come out ahead. Defense and rebounding will be our main objectives. We believe that these two factors are 5-- guts and more than anything else. Despite our lack of height we believe we can outrebound taller teams just becauM of this philosophy," said about determination . Hansen. Both Hicks and Boarden are extremely quick according to Hansen. Hicks will provide the majority of the teams floor leadership while Boarden is described by his coach as the quickest player in the league. The Falcon hope to do a lot of fast breaking with Hicks and Boarden in the lineup. These breaks will come off either their pressure defense or missed shots. Coach Hansen has developed the philosophy that his team likes to work the ball in for a good percentage shot and force the to shoot from the teem captain who ia on oatstanding defense, is a good IBcks is ? 0. er off-seas- 6-- 6-- center.
