Most area schools, including most elementaries in the Clearfield and Sunset areas have set August 8th as their registration deadline. They are as follows: North Boundary 450 South and Birch Street; South Boundary-145- 0 South; East Boundary-SundownCondominiums (including 1500 East, Pepper -- er Ridge Apts., and Phyllis SubState division); West Boundary Street. Parents registering Kindergarten children and first grades new to Utah are required to have a birth certificate or other verification of birth date for the child. Kindergarten children must be five years old by this Oct. 31st. Kindergarten children and all students registering for the first time in Utah must be immunized for DTP, Polio, Measles, and Rubella.. A cer-tificate of proof for these - immunizations is to be left at the school Kindergarten children should also have physical examination prior to the start of school. If your physician does not have these forms they must be picked up at the school. ' Fees for the Kindergarten snack for this school year are $15 per child, or $6.30 per child for those who qualify for free lunch. It is necessary that all students register for school whether they have attended at South Clearfield, Davis ' V- - County, or Utah schools before. Doxey Sets Date Registration for all K-- students new to Doxey School will be held Wednesday, Augusti 8.., from 9 to 3 at the school office. The school area includes Sundown Mobile Home Court, Green Hills and .Country Hill subdivisions, the area along 1000 West from 300 North to 800 North, the area from 300 North in Clearfield to 1300 North in Sunset between Main street 6 and the railroad tracks. ' A Birth Certificate must be brought to registration to verify the birth date of Kindergarten students. The Kindergarten Snack Fee of $15 may be paid oh or before AugUSt 17. Sophomores register on Friday, August 10th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 pm. At registration time, students will pick up their class schedules. School officials report that if there are any errors or changes that need to be made, the counselors will be available for assisting in changes. Junior High Signup Time North Davis Junior High has set aside August 14th as registration time for seventh graders. Seventh graders can signup for the new school year from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Eighth and ninth grade students , should be ready to register on August 15th from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. p.m. Students new to the area can register on August 16th. Registration fees should be paid at the time of registration. Sunset Junior High will register its ninth grade students on August 19th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Eighth grade students can register on August 13th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Seventh grade class members should register on August 14th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and new students to the area will sign-u- p on the 14th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Pictures will be taken at this time. If the time schedule about is not convenient students may feel free to come to any of the above schedule times.. Activity fees will be $3.50 locker fee .50 cents, towel fee $1, and yearbook fee $2 which is a total of $7. A group of seventeen young horsewomen competed for the title of Davis County Fair Junior Rodeo-Queeat the County Fairgrounds in Farmington this weekend. . The girls, between the ages of 8 and 16 were judged on their hor- semanship, personality and appearance by three judges Bud Favero, Mrs. Sherry Hunting and Miss Kim Horrock. , Selected as the queen is Patti Madsen, 15, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Madsen, Layton. She also won the congeniality, horsemanship ..and the personality and appearance trophies in her age group. ( The first attendant served as second attendant last year. She is tiny Jen nifer Flinders, 11, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Flinders, South Weber. Along with the princess title, Miss Flinders won the personality and appearance and the horsemanship awards in her age group. Little Kaprice Moore, 8, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Moore, Syracuse, was selected as the second attendant and also won the personality and appearance trophy in her age group. Alisa Bateman, 10, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wes Bateman, West Bountiful, won the congeniality trophy in the 8 to 10 year old group and Robyn Fielding, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Fielding, Syracuse, was awarded the congeniality trophy in the 3 year old group of contestants. 11-1- They will assist at the horse events during the Fair on August 16, 17 and 18 and will reign over the Junior Rodeo at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, the opening day of the fair, according to Mrs. Louise Fielding, chairman of the contest. The Davis County Fair Junior Rodeo will be one of the exciting events held on the opening day of the fair, Thursday, Aug. 16. It will begin at 4 p.m., an hour earlier than it has been held in the past, according to Noal Evans and of the event. Rulon King, There are six classes in which boys and girls eighteen years of age and younger may enter. Those 13 and under will be competing in Group A those 14 to 18 years old will compete in Group B. The various classes include: Steer Riding with Circingle; Calf Roping; Flat Racing (divided into three groups according to horse size) ; and for girls there will be Goat tying, barrel racing and break-awa- y roping. An entry fee of $3 for each event entered will be charged to those in Group A and $5 entry fee will be charged to Group B entrants. A $10 prize will be given to each first place winner in each class and $130 prize money will be awarded to be divided according to the same forumula as the entry fees. Entry blanks for the events may be obtained from either Mr. King or Mr. Evans or at the Fair Office in Farmington. Proposed tax to be discussed at meeting The Utility Franchise Tax, which would be a percentage of Clearfield residents month utility bills and then OFFICER MECHAM WAS RECENTLY promoted to the position of sergeant. Officer promoted CLEARFIELD Officer Reed of the Clearfield Police Department has been promoted to be & sergeant in. the police force here. For the past five years, Mecham has served in Clearfield with four of those years as a fulltime officer and one year prior as a reserve officer. He has earned a degree from Weber State College, and has received specialized training in Denver where he received a special certificate for crisis control prevention.' Sergeant Mecham graduated in the top 5 of his class In 1977 from the Utah Police Academy School in Salt Lake City. Presently Mecham; his wife and their two children reside in Clearfield. Mecham . He grew up In South Ogden where he attended Bonneville High. While in high school his main interests stemmed in the music department. He was president of the choir and of the band and eventually earned a scholarship to Weber State in music. I always wanted to be a police officer, ever since I was 11 years old, said Mecham, working as an officer in Clearfield is particularly in-- . teresting because of our three general settings. We have the Freeport Center which employees about 6500 people, we have the air base, and we have the general populas which combined can make this job interesting." I think as we think about this park we do owe a great deal of gratitude to those who have brought it about. Parks are one of those things that Should be done by the government and unfortunately the government gets into some things they shouldnt from time to time. Im certainly grateful for the time that has been spent to build such a beautiful park and I'm sure you are too, said Monson. A discussion of this proposed tax and Senior Citizen's Day set Senior Citizens Day at the Davis County Fair will be Friday, Aug. 17 beginning with a luncheon at noon at the Gaslight Terrace at Lagoon. Tickets for the luncheon will be available at the Senior Centers until noon on Aug. 15, according to Alice J. Johnson, director. Exhibits in the Senior Citizens Department of the Fair may be entered in three divisions Art, Crafts and Home Arts and Handwork. Competition is open only to residents of Davis County who are 60 years of age or older. In the art division exhibits in oils, watercolors, graphic arts or china painting will be accepted. The Crafts division will include exhibits in: lapidary, macrame, ceramics, tole painting, metal work, leather work, moslacs, woodwork, art, and a miscellaneous class. The home arts division will include clothing, quilts and afghans, and rugs and wall hangings exhibits. In each division, a limit of three exhibits from any one exhibitor will be accepted, according to Ted Peterson, chairman. paint-by-numb- er subsequent action will take place on Tuesday August 14th at the Clearfield City Council chambers. The City Building is located at 140 East Center Street. The council meeting will begin at 7 p.m. If residents wish to make a statement on this proposed tax, they are invited to attend the meeting. oomi IhieDd By Keith Duncan Fisher conducted the hour and he first Lets do it again, is what they are saying in West Point after the city's first ever celebration. Of course the kind of celebration that took place last Saturday will have to wait until next year and Mayor Loy F. Blake notes that itll even be better. With a new park just completed and completely paid for and in the midst of all the other summer celebrations, West Point City officials began planning for a celebration of their own. Festivities last Saturday included a parade lined with important local, county and state men. The parade also included bunches of West Point children showing off homemade floats and fancied-u- p bicycles. Immediately following the parade, local towns people assembled for a program to honor those responsible for the planning, building and completing the West Point Park. A dedicatorial prayer was also given at the time. During the day there were rides, games, booths, and a galore of activities to keep everyone happy. The baseball game certainly turned out a success and they say the idea will be brought back next year. old-tim- er The hour-lon- g program that followed the parade was particularly touching to most. Councilman Fled , gave the floor to Ward C. Holbrook, the first town president of West Point. Mr. Holbrook first recognized the many friends he saw in attendance. He presently lives in Bountiful. After being released from the military in December of 1918, he met his wife, Mable Ford, and soon after came to West Point to make their home. Five of their six children were born in West Point. I might inform you young men and women that Doctor Tanner would come out from Layton and deliver a baby in your own home for $45, Mid We found West Point a Holbrook, place to live and I had enjoyable very a hard time trying to wean my wife away to go back to Bountiful, the place where I was bom. Its always a joy to come back to West Point to get hugged by old friends, especially Marvin and Julian Bennett. I do enjoy being hugged, he salD. Mr. Holbrook praised those Lyle Bennett attends Chairman of the Utah's outdoor recreation is Lyle Bennett. He was also in attendance at the celebration.
