Not only have the men enjoyed tremfendous success at the sport, but now the women are doing their part to keep the Falcons high on the list But traditions are past Coach Margo Jones knows that a winning tradition alone doesnt win ya a Championship today. Because of that she and her 1979 edition of girls basketball have their work cut out for them. The Falcons are young this season and lack in experience. Coach Jones says their improving and will get better as each game comes and goes. Clearfield isnt blessed with any super talented performers like theyve had the past couple of years, but they do possess girls capable of, making themselves known this season. Karleen Peart is a junior who seryes as a forward and center for the Falcons. She has been the leading scorer, averaging IB points a game. She was one of the big reasons,. ' Cindy Rush also plays center and is a Junior who has started the last two games, Another junior, Becky Spaulding, plays guard and is described by her coach as quick and a strong defensive player. Marco Rusk could be the quickest guard in the league and is probably the most improved Falcon player this season. She had 19 points in the big win over Skyview. Tammy Roberts, a senior, is a big leaper. Coach Jones says she can out Jump anyone and she returns to Clearfield with a letter. Coach Jones A. is impressed with her shooting ability. Cindy Clark is a forward guard who lettered last season. Thompson, who instructs drivers education at Roy High during the day and assists In vanity coaching duties after school hours, is Just one of many devoted officials who care about the image of Utah high school basketball. Coach Thompson, as the Royals know him heads the varsity baseball team at Roy and assists Ted Smith and Ernie Jacklin in basketball and football coaching duties. Thompson works with the sophomore program in basketball and heads the defensive unit in football. His baseball teams have enjoyed tremendous success over the past four or five years. When not at home with his wife and their three children, or when hes not himself coaching, Thompson, gets love, close .Involved in another .Thompson backed Yocum by saying, If teams are equal in most ways and if the officals do their job by watching college basketball, and seeing the game the way it should be looked at," said Thompson. , The cage official, who officiates in games all over the state, was parthe with quality impressed ticularlly of basketball in Region One. But in all my basketball experience, Ive never seen a game taken away by an official and it will probably never happen, as ion4 as their are officials who care about what they are doing," said ? Thompson says a good official is automatic and is in position to give the Automatic calls. "If thats the case, there is ho room for cheating," said Thompson. DO IT ICE SKATE ON SKIS Do you feel awkward and clumsy on your cross country skis? If so, try this exercise. Skiing cross country is much like ice skating. To practice, take off your poles. Put your hands behind your back and slide your right ski forward. As you slide that ski, push off the left ski and glide on the right one. Then slide your left ski forward, push off the right ski, and repeat. It's Kris Towles just like skating! Practice your skating exercise on a slight downgrade. Start slowly, and then try to develop a rhythm. As in skating, balance is important! After a short time, you should feel smoother and more stable on your skis. Then, just put your poles on and ski like new.
