Goochs teammate, Freddie Cook, got his best start of the year and finished third in the race. Cook won the long jump event with a leap of 20 feet and 5 inches, just two inches better than his teammate, Greg Boarden, who landed at 20 feet 3 inches. TIM GOOCH side-by-sid- e Royals strong in spots Clearfield overwhelmed Roy 109 to a dual track meet on Royal ground, last week, and did with superior strength in every event. The Falcons won all but three of the 17 blue ribbons, and the Royals 9 5 for second place honors and 11 to 3for third place. 33 in Art Hansen finished first in both 1600 meter and the 3200 meter runs, and sophomore Mike Reske leaped 6 4 inches to win in the high jump, and thats all the blue ribbons that Roy won. Clearfield swept three events in its assualt on the Royals. The Falcons won first, second and third in the 800 meter run, the javelin the throw and the discus toss. In every other event, Clearfield won two of the first three places. Coach John Flint has ninety participants in his track program, and suited 72 for Wednesday's meet. Roy won first in the mile run, but the next seven finishers were Falcons. The Royal track team has fewer than 30 members. In, what may yet prove to be the Region One battle of supremacy in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, Clearfields Tim Gooch, nipped Roy sophomore Keith Crockett for top honors. Both runners were well aware of the others history in this event. Both races were close, but Gooch claimed the gold. Roys Jennifer James won .first place in the 100 meter H.H., in the 300 meter L.H., in the 200 meter dash, and ran on the winning 440 yard relay team to spark the Royal victory. . |
