Todays article deals with the home economics classes.) Home economics, once thought of as a womans domain designed to teach cooking and sewing, is changing at Weber High School. Although home economics courses are still taken primarily by girls, the basic emphasis on cooking and sewing has broadened to include the teaching of more skills. The school has also taken of on the responsibility to students cope teaching with modern life financially and emotionally. In classes such as Management for Home and Personal Living, Life Skills, Personal and Family Life, and Respon- sible Parenting. Home economics hits human relationships and the practical skills of running a home, department head Jan Moyes explained. Everybody has a home. Mrs. Moyes said it is important for women to have saleable skills, although she by no means advocates that all women work. It was Girls Association Week. To start the week off with a good spirit, the girls asked their favorite guys to go to church with them. Monday, computer dating day was for those who had a hard time finding the right boy or girl all by themselves. Dear Hunting Licenses were sold so the girls could legally ask their new found dears out for a date, and silver dating rings were sold so the guys could have a date on Saturday night with their new found girls. Tuesday was Crazy Socks Day. Everyone wore their favorite crazy socks to school. The day of the fantastic 24-2- Talent Assembly finally came on Wed. It was also Pride Day, so all students wore their class colors: sophomores in white, juniors in red, and seniors in black! . painter pants, and cowboy hats. Computer Dating cards were given out during lunch time. With a list of names of guys or girls right for a person. Hush day fell oin Friday. All the girls made a garter and wore it on their arms to school. If they talked to any boys they had to give their garter to the first one they talked to. At the same time, the guys were trying to get the most garters and be titled, Mr. Irresistable. One guy will represent each class in receiving this title. Friday night was the big night for the Sadie Hawkins Dance. It was a lot of fun. Saturday night the Dear Hunting License and Silver Dating ring holders were taken out by the person responsible for giving it to them. Those who couldnt make their date on Saturday night will go at another time.
