There were enough hockey games last Saturday, Sunday and Monday in Bountiful to do just that. But these ice hockey fellows that competed last weekend are but sprouts, none really giving thought that someday they could be skating among the best of them. The Golden Spike Hockey Club of Ogden certainly did their part to commemorate Presidents Day and entertain scores of youth in presenting a Presidents Day Hockey Tournament. The three-da- y event saw 21 hockey contests go from start to finish in what has been termed as one of the most successful winter events Ogden has been associated with. Boys from ages 10 through junior high age competed in the spectacular event which hosted teams from Ogden, Salt Lake, Idaho Falls and Sun Valley. The Ogden entries in the three divisions, squirt, pfee wees and bantam, certainly established a name for themselves by taking the crown in two and finishing of those categories second in another. The success enjoyed by the Ogden teams can only mean more enthusiastic growth in the months and years to follow. Hockey in this area has already seen a terrific uprise. Many of the boys enlisted on the Ogden teams come from Roy, Sunset, Clearfield, Kaysville, Riverdale and other surrounding communities. That goal was assisted by Eric Peterson and Peter Francyk. Coach Jim Nielsen, who coaches the Ogden PeeWees, cried out in happiness, We just couldnt buy a goal, commenting on the 43 shots his team had taken to score. Salt Lake tallied three quick goals which forced the Ogden team from their regular game plan according to assistant coach, Gary Bowden. "But Im just happy the way the little guys battled back, he said.
