Show r BEN LOMOND BEACON. Feb. 1. 1979, Page 6 i nsfl to Viov.Tnont Warrior Coach Dick Conolly of Weber. Coach Ron Johansen commented on felt it Montgomoys play, saying I was us against him. And that was just about the case, Montgomery notching more than half of his teams total point output. The victory moved Viewmont into isolated second place in Region One and gave the Vikings a 2 record. It doesnt totally surprise me that were this close to the top, though it might some other folks. Were still capable of playing much better and the good thing about it is that the kids know it, said Coach Johansen of Viewmont. The Vikings could really shock some pickers this Friday if they manage to knock off league-leade- r Clearfield. This classic battle that will be staged in the Clearfield gym. The Falcons and the Vikings are the two highest scoring teams in Region One. though the Falcons sport Viewmonts hot shooting duo of Brad Thacker and Kelly Downs, may have made shambles of the Weber Warriors hopes to win the Region One basketball championship this season. Downs and Thacker combined for 39 points last Friday evening in their team's slim 0 win over Weber. Many around the league have begun to take the outside shooting of the Viewmont Vikings for serious, but for some, like the Warriors,, it may be a little too late. Webers Mark Montgomery was almost the total answer to victory for the Warriors. Montgomery scored almost at will on moves inside the key and ended the contest with 33 points. With just 2 seconds left in the crucial Region One battle, Montgomery intentionally missed a free throw, got the rebound, but bobbled it. "If he had of got that rebound, I dont think he would have missed that shot, said 62-6- 6-- pre-seas- the No. 1 team in defense, at least in fewest points allowed by opponents. Another interesting note is that the Clearfield team has failed to lose on their home court. A win Friday would bring the Falcons home court winning streak to 9. With the loss last Friday to Weber, the were Warriors virtually eliminated from a chance to win the Region One title, though mathmatical it is still possible. The club now stands at 4 and now stand back in fifth ' place. Bountiful comes to Pleasant View this Friday to avenge their earlier loss to Weber. The Warriors on the other hand, know they cant lose too many more or they may find themselves undeserving of even a state playoff slot. The top five teams will represent Region One in the tournament with the sixth place team playing off to go to state. 4-- Region On After 8 . MARK MONTGOMERY soars high for two of his season high 33 points in league contest with the Viewmont Vikings. Doug Day of the Vikings tries in vain to thwart Montgomery's attempts to score. Despite the super performance of Montgomery, the Warriors dropped a close one, in They now stand , Region One. 62-6- 4-- 4 COACH DICK directs traffic CONOLLY in recent basketball game.
