Show I BEN November 20, 1978 Page 5 LOMOND BEACON Top players recognized by Keith Duncan Beacon Editor One of the highlights of the football season took place last Thursday evening with the Booster Club organizing and putting on the by many as the cream of the crop of all past football banquets. 1978 annual football awards banquet. It was an evening of remembering past cherished memories, recieving special recognition for outstanding play and even the drying of a tear or two. It was described A special dinner was put together which included grilled steaks, potatoes, salad, rolls and a selection of any kind of pie for dessert. Over 300 people were served that evening. Members of the Weber High School Administration were in attendance, Mr. Ted Campbell, Mr. Parker, and Mr. Carl Boyington. All coaches and their wives were in attendance along with each football player, his date, and his parents. Letterman Awarded The 1978 letterman were awarded that evening. They included Ralph Anderson, Curt Beutler, Danny Pat Jamison, Kory Kennington, Andre Malan, Neil Miller, Jeff Reed, Steve Shaw, Drew Skeen, Dave Wade, Clay Whit- Eat-sma- n, temore, Ken Willliamson, Dave Anderson, Mike Avis, Terry Anderson, Rick Barid, Brian Ballif, Greg Cook, Scott 'll i Martini, Shawn Miller Randy McCoppin, Mark Montgomer, Blaine Nelson, John Roper Kevin Shattuck, Benson Paronn, Jeff Schoendeide, Sederholm, Bob Kurt team this past season was the best group of men that he had ever been associated In all my with. He said, eight years of coaching, this groups stands a little higher than the rest. They are part of me I love everyone of them Relating some past experiences of this season, Coach James related to a Stuaffer, Treasure, Bruce captains, special Kurt Stauffer, was awarded with plaques that were donated by the 1978 Boosters Club. The players also were able to keep the name tag that hung on their jerseys. Seniors recieving these awards were Dave Anderson, Mike Avis, Terry Anderson, Rick Barid, Brian Ballif, Greg Cook, Rick Caldwell, Scott Cottrell, Rick Goodliffe, Paul Gift, Dave Green, Larry Hill, Scott Jones, Mark Ketchum, Scott Martini, Shawn Miler, Randy McCoppin, Mark Montgomery, Blaine Nelson, MOST DEFENSIVE POINTS Glen, Kevin, and Vivian Sederholm ik 4. A slide presentation of pictures taken by Pete Russell helped to conclude the evening. t Bruce Thorpe, and Mark Montgomer. When a local paper in the area came to the school to take pictures for its annual football edition, the photographer mentioned tha papers policy that only three people could be in the photo. The decision came by the captians, that if all of them couldnt be in the picture, then none of them would be pictured. They stuck by their decsion and three other players were selected. Another experience was enjoyed by Coach James. A year ago he lent a tie to a particular player for the Homecoming festivities. The coach soon forgot he had lent the tie out and a year rolled by. This past Homecoming, the same player approached Coach James recognizing his fault in not returning the tie and presented Coach James tie. with a brand-ne- Special Senior awards were also given. Each senior We thought about getting someone else to speak, but we agreed that no one else knew that team as well as we did. So Ill attempt to say a few things this evening, about these kids, because this is their banquet. said Coach James. He spoke of the many hours that coaches put into coaching and the wives at home that never see them. He personally thanked his wife. Coach James was sincere in expressing that football was a way of life for him. If it hadnt been for Brooks. The Outstanding Player of the Year was given to Bruce Thorpe by Coach James. Each coach was then given a special plaque by each captains of the team had. The captains include Kurt Stauffer. He took a few moments at one point to list the winners of the humerous awards that went to team members. The tables were decorated beautifully. On one table located in the middle of the room were two specially designed plaques that were put together by Mrs. Irene Stauffer. Each had a special poem that was dedicated to a football player and his destiny. Kevin Sederholm was awarded the trophy for the Most Defensive Points this season Mike Avis recieved the Warrior Scout Award Rick Treasure came back from a gun accident in the summer to capture the Most intense sincereity, Coach James commented that Thorpe, Mike Olsen, and Ralph Zentgraph. Coach James specially recognized the teams two managers, Ralph Zentgraph and Mike Olsen, saying they were the finest set of managers he had seen in his eight years of coaching. Parts of the evening were conducted by one of the teams Weber coaches Tracey Deneke, Dave Books, Joe James, and Glen Prisk recieved awards from the players. Rick Improved Player Award Shawn Miller was given Special Awards Presented teaching at this school, or had some of the greatest experiences of my life, commented James He said he had had the saddest and happiest times of this life m the gridiron sport.
