Other days we would just sit and talk, or rather shed talk. I have spent hours listening to her stories. She had such a colorful and expressive way of telling them. As I grew older, I still paid her visits, and weve stayed as close as ever. Nine months ago, Mrs. Parry had a stroke. One side of her body became paralyzed and she has lost her speech. When she wants me to do something special, she leads me around the house and we play a game of charades-guessin- g what she wants done. The wonderful thing is she doesnt get depressed; she smiles and goes on. When I leave she always throws me a kiss. The giving of love has changed hands now, but its still there. It always will be. The Fair was held from p m. and classes were dismissed so that students could participate. Stringent standards set of charge affect patients. ofAmong the services fered by a qualifying laboratory are the following: hematology, which includes complete blood counts on all hospital patients, blood platelets counts and bone acts which directly marrow examinations; urinalysis, which includes chemical and microscopic examination of the urine; clinical chemistry, which includes the determinations of many blood and other body fluid constituents such as amylase, glucose, blood urea nitrogen, bilirubin, uric acid, serum proteins and various enzymes; microbiology, which includes culturing bacteria from many body sources and determining the susceptibility of various microorganisms to antibiotics; which immunology, determines many antigen-antibod- reactions; coagulation, which determines the clotting properties .of blood under many different pathological conditions. Dr. Totzke said the laboratory maintanns a thoroughly modern blood bank. More then 5,000 pints of blood were drawn in 1977 from donors, and more than 3,500 transfusions were given. Also, the cytology laboratory investigates the structure of cells shed by various parts of the body, so that malignant changes can be recognized early and treatment of the patient begun as soon as possible. We are certainly pleased to get this accreditation, which is an additional mark of excellence for hospital facilities, Dr. Totzke said. The laboratory has a staff of about 70. A dedicated effort by the technologists and their section supervisors was necessary to meet the CAP standards. An equally dedicated effort by the clerical was staff also needed, because of the large in amount of typing procedure restructuring manuals. Laboratory facilities are open around the clock. An accident victim brought into the hospital in the middle of the night in need of five pints of blood could receive the d blood within 15 minutes, the doctor noted. cross-matche- must be qualifying Eight standards 1 met by laboratories.
