The ball is actually a little leather bag and the game is called foot bag. Foot bag may By DAN CARLSRUH Reivew Sports Editor If you ever walked across one of the area colleges in the past few years you probably have noticed a group of people standing in a small circle. You may have stopped and watched as they each took turns lifting their legs, almost like they were standing on some hot coals or a red-ahill. It could be that the group was only practicing for their Dances From Strange Cultures class, or maybe the pressure of finals finally got to them and they were taking their frustrations out by kicking an imaginary professor. I think they should have told him before he had turned down the feeler from Oregon for the head job up there. Maybe he could have gracefully announced that he was moving on. But then maybe thats what they had in mind and Frank Arnold wouldnt buy it. Maybe he decided to stand up against the establishment and challenged them to take a poll of the players. Maybe someone leaked the whole affair to the press and the writers blew things out of proportion. So the players spoke up against their coach. I am sure there was discontent on the team and when the administrators gave them a chance to voice their grievances, the flood gates opened, and the headhunting press exagerated their discontent. Show me a team that doesnt have discontent and o 0 o U q Q c, at times. Even their parents were writing letters and making phone calls to the administration and to church officials in Salt Lake City. Some of the players complained openly of their treatment by Arnold. He gripes about its coach and I will show you a team that has been winning every game. A lot of the sins blamed on Frank Arnold would have been forgiven if he had taken his team into the NCAA, or even the NIT. e But BYU lost in a to Utah in a game that would have given them ownership of the WAC championship and a ticket to the Western wasnt popular with a lot alumni and the booster club members complained bitterly every time he lost one he should have won. triple-overtim- Reg-ional- across from McDonald's UTAH TREE FARMS 30 COLORADO SPRUCE startin9 at 70 l 2' LARGE PINES LAYTON educational organizations encourage kicking the little bag for recreation and skill development.
