Dropped courses will be entered on the students permanent record and reflect a W (withdraw). Withdrawal from the University If for any reason, the student finds it necessary to drop before the end of the registered session or semester, he or she must take the appropriate steps to withdraw from the University officially. Contact the local USUE Office for further information and see the refund section of this schedule. recorded and approved on a change of registration form. Regular courses may be added if dropped during the first week without any charge by submitting the form to the office. An instructors signature is not required to drop courses. Students receiving Veterans Educational Benefits must notify the Office of Veterans Affairs of any changes in their registration. Commencing the 3 1st. day of the semester, the students academic dean must approve withdrawal and this may be done only upon a demonstration of conditions beyond the students control. The term, conditions beyond the students control includes: (1) incapacitating illness which prevents a student from attending classes for a period of at least two weeks; (2) a death in the immediate family; (3) financial responsibilities requiring a student to alter course schedule to secure employment; (4) change in work schedule as required by employer; or (5) other emergencies deemed appropriate by the instructor. Documentation of the circumstance cited to justify dropping after the deadline is required. Under no circumstance is dropping a course after the thirtieth day permitted for the purpose of avoiding an unsatisfactory grade; neither shall I grades be given to avoid the ' consequences of inadequate performance. Appeals of the deans decision may be directed to the Provosts Office. Dates and deadlines will be posted in the local USU office. Complete Withdrawal from the University The student must initiate an official withdrawal from the University by appearing in person or by addressing a signed request to the Office of the Registrar. No one will be permitted to withdraw from the University once final examinations have begun. The date of the official withdrawal is the date the withdrawal form or letter is received. Repeated Courses Any student who has repeated a USU or USUE course should notify the Records Office immediately so the GPA can be recomputed. When a course is repeated, the grade and credit hours used to calculate the grade point averages are the grade and credit hours earned the last time the course was taken. Previous grades and credit hours for the same course will remain on the students record but will not count in the GPA or total completed. Grade Responsibility Grading is both the responsibility and the prerogative of the individual instructor. Where appropriate, the instructor may delegate authority but no responsibility in this matter. The instructor is; the ultimate arbiter of grades in his or her course. Changing grades shall be the sole responsibility of the individual instructor, subject to existing procedures of the University Code and administrative procedures for a review and due process. Instructors are charged with the responsibility of denying students the privilege of attending class if they have not complied with the regulations herein prescribed for admission to classes. In the event students register for a class which is later canceled, they may opt for another course of equal credit or receive a 1 00 refund. Students may exercise this option in the local USUE office. Super Drop Policy A Super Drop Policy is being enforced programmatically beginning Winter Quarter 1998 . For your information, this policy stipulates that for the first week of the quarter you will have unlimited drops, from the 6th day through the 30th day of class, students may drop no more than EIGHT courses prior to the completion of your first undergraduate degree, etc. As students reach this limit, the policy also states that they are to get approval from their instructor, academic advisors and academic dean before they will be allowed to drop any additional classes. If you have any questions please contact the local office. Class Changes Class changes do occur. Please check the USU office for class changes. , Academic Information Grades and Grading: Following the close of fall semester, grades for class work of each session and the entire semester will be available to all students. No grades will be issued until that time. A grade of pass(P) indicates academic achievement of not less than a C. All students including freshmen may take the course on a option by submitting a card to Admissions and Records by Nov. 1 1 . Please note that P grades may not be accepted by some Departments for Major Requirements nor by some -F A $10 processing fee is charged when a student drops all classes.
