lading of the remains of the infant reported in mondays issue of the NEWS has excited a great deal of comment horror and disgust the coroners jury met pursuant to adjournment on monday but nad to adjourn again until this morning when they met at 10 dr AS A S condon was present and completed the postmortem post mortem examination of the body and underwent a thorough catechising catechi sing by 09 the induisi tors several other witnesses were sworn as to what they knew if anything in relation to this mysterious affair the inquest lasted till near 1 4 this after afternoon noori when the jury arrived at the following VERDICT TERRITORY OF UTAH I 1 ogden precinct ss 88 weber county J J an inquisition at which daniel hamer was sworn and acted as official reporter holden at ogden city ogden precinct weber county on le the alth day ot of january AD 1887 before fore the coroner of said county the abday of a female infant child by the jurors whose names are hereto subscribed the said jurors upon their oaths do find evidence that the said infant was a full fall time child that it had bad lived and that it came to its death by foul means and exposure in wit witness iless whereof we have hereto set our hands the day and year above written JOSEPH HALI HAH WILLIAM james JAMBS M BROWN jurors MARK HALL coroner no clue has at present been found t to the perpetrators of the unnatural unnatural deed but no pains will be spared and no just means left untried to ferret them out atit and bring them ao to punishment it itis is seldom that such a discovery as the above has been made in this city there is still a dearth of business in the justices court here not an arrest to day indeed it is a fact that judge dee has not had a case before him since the close of the year 1886 for several days past we have been visited with light snowfalls snowballs snow falls the ground being already frozen the snow remains up melted and as a result the gliding vehicles are got out and the pea away and ere nymore ma years have joined the eternities but few will be left who were personally acquainted with the prophet joseph smith about six on saturday night ae ath instant mother louisa ward ard breathed her last in this city she was one of the earliest converts convert of the gospel through the labors of the late president tJ J M grant under his bis vf ching she became convinced of t ti 1 ruth and was by him baptized irlo buo the church in 1841 shortly afterwards elder grant baptized her husband and together they emigrated in 1843 to nauvoo they resided there until the general exodus when in common with of others they were forced from their homes into exile into the wilde wilderness they came on as far as council bluffs and after staying there some ti methe y returned to virginia too to dispose of bf some pro property ch erty they had previous to coming to utah before they could get away anav again the civil war broke out and they were prevented from leaving on J july uly ad 1862 her husband died I 1 in 1864 she gathered fathered up what means she could and emigrated to utah she settled tor for some time in provo valley and in 1866 came to ogden where she has ever since resided until her death the funeral services were held hald at the residence of her daughter and sonin son in law brother and sibber D H peery feery there was a very I 1 large a rge congregation gr gre on the occasion ion the speakers at the obsequies were elders D M stuart john C thom thompson sop T B lewis and apostle F D rich richards all of whom bore strong testimonies to her excellence and fidelity as a latter day saint one of t these hese brethren had been acquainted with her over forty years and all had known her many years which warranted them in speaking in the highest terms of her he r many virtues she was quiet and very unobtrusive yet in her quiet way she had many to investigate and embrace the gospel among whom were two of the speakers john joh n 0 thomp son andt and T B lewis her H er remains were followed by a long cortege to their resting place in the ogden cemetery where the dedicatory prayer was offered by elder lorin farr she has had bad seven children 18 grandchildren and three great grandchildren most 0 of f whom survive her on friday evening a sad scene oct oc burred at the home of brother cobabe in which he be lost his bis wife she died in in childbirth child birth she was only in the year of her age she was an excellent woman was a ga good od wife affectionate mother and a faithful latter jay aay saint she had some six children two of whom are dead the obsequies were in toe the second ward wara meeting house on sunday afternoon when consoling addresses were delivered by elders R M bach rich kichard rd J hill and moroni br 4 A SER 1 A k ACCIDENT B happened to a tt li year old boy named matthews who s parents reside at hooper in wi ter county while coming down fourth street when near the court house he lell fell from a wagon one of the hind wheels passed over his head bead cutting and bruising it in a terrible manner he was taken to the office of dr powers the physician dressed the wounds which 1 while T they are serious are
