Ilun-hands-- Editor: Many in our city appreciate the decisions of past mayors and councils concerning the issue of the ECDC landfill and most certainly, the efforts of Mayor Clark and the present council. They have shown great courage, wisdom and patience in dealing with this issue that has divided our city. In my opinion, the CAN group has cost the city a great deal of money and incalculable hours of work by the mayor, the council and the city attorney. I can confidently come up with an amount of $ 19,000. The city should not have had the burden of this expense. If the objective of CAN could be accomplished, I believe we would be living in Dead City, U.S.A. And on that, you can safely wager your only pair of jeans. CANs expenditure of money and time must be enormous. The landfill is not on wheels. It will continue to operate in place. CAN must know this. So I wonder, who or what pays on VICA is a national organi- zation dedicated to the deve-th- e lopment of vocational technical students. Tyrrell had only completed two quarters of diesel mechan- ics at CEU when he entered tournament. Wear your safety belt, and fasten children into approved child safety seats. Have your vehicle inspected and tuned before the bills? No one continues on a dead-en- d trail forever just to satisfy an ego. I think CAN may be hoping for a payday. What will it be and when will it be? Your guess could be as good as mine. nd Someday, we may know. Without the ECDC landfill being within our boundaries, our property and sales tax base would hardly provide enough income to pay for our street lighting and the wages of city employees. Of course, tripled or quadrupled water rates might have been an option. ECDC provides an opportunity to survive with dignity and with a bankroll. Who among us in our city would have the fees paid to Carbon County rather than to East Carbon City? When you think ECDC smile. I suggest that those who would destroy our city join with those of us who will save it. Vote wisely in June. Buss Cline Mark Twain Wells Linda Johnstun's kPcimI cj! Editor: Carbon County voters should take a good look at the candidates who are seeking the job of sheriff for the next four years. A sheriff must not only be an expert in law enforcement, but must also be an excellent administrator and select the most qualified personnel to serve in county law enforcement. For the Carbon County sheriffs department and the countys citizens, politics, friends and relations should be left out of the selection process when filling positions. There are many levels of administrative knowlege that are necessary to be a sheriff. We urge voters to check the candidates .qualifications, then vote for the best candidate at the primary election on June 28.
