Durrant Elementary students perform a musical selection for the audience in attendance at the schools specially scheduled open house on May 19. Organizers planned the open house to celebrate Durrants 40 years of educational contributions to the community. Educators, former teachers, principals, Durrants alumni and the public attended the event. After KBcgUntt enjoying the program, participants were free to tour the building or simply reminisce about the school. Due primarily to declining student enrollment throughout the district, the Carbon County Board of Education decided to close Durrant Elementary at the conclusion of the 1 993-9school year. The current school year will end Thursday, May 26. Bryner: Edward Braulio Gonzales defendant appeared at continued proceedings in a felony level complaint containing two third degree counts, failure to respond to a police officers command to stop (evasion) and assault by a prisoner, plus two additional class B misde- meanor category charges, driving under the influence of an intoxicant (DUI) and possession of a controlled substance. Gonzales pleaded guilty to the two third degree level felony offenses, with pronouncement of judgment and sentence set on July 5; in exchange for the defendants guilty pleas, the two remaining class B misdemeanor category counts filed against Gonzales dismissed. Christopher Bert Larson defendant pleaded guilty at arraignment to a single class A misdemeanor category theft charge, amended from an original third degree felony level theft offense; sentencing phase in the case scheduled on July 5. Donald Ray Olsen defendant pleaded guilty to an amended information containing two misdemeanor category counts, class A attempted injuring jails and class C intoxication; Olsen sentenced to one year in the county jail, fined $750 and directed to satisfy an addition al $250 in victim restitution. Service of all jail time sus- pended, on condition the monetary assessments are paid, and defendant placed on informal probation to the court for 18 months; the original felony level complaint filed against Olsen contained two third degree charges, injuring jail plus supplying contraband to prisoners, in addition to the class C misdemeanor category intoxication offense. Actions taken in misde- meanor criminal matters on May 16 before Judge Bryner: David Andrew Parkin defendant appeared for pronouncement of judgment in a case containing three counts, two class B and one class C criminal mischief charge; Parkin sentenced to 18 consecutive months in the county jail, fined $555 and instructed to pay an additional $1,452.23 in victim restitution. Service of all jail time suspended upon satisfaction of the monetary assessments, and defendant placed on formal probation under the supervision of the department corrections for one year. Johnnie Leo Martinez defendant sentenced to one year in the county jail and ordered to complete 50 hours of community service in an information recently elected Richard Lyons of Sunset as its new leader at the annual state con- vention in Park City.
