March 10. 1999 Salina Sun Wolves Win Consolation Championship Wolves take consolation Wolves fall in first round by Ashley Burr The North Sevier Wolves entered the 2A State Tournament on March 4, atSUU. They were defeated 8 in their opening game against the Gridley replaced Brett Wanlass who had been charged with three fouls, and he kept the Wolves close with six quarter points The Wolves, how ev er, were dow n by one going into the final Grantsv llleCow boy s, forcing them into quarter, 36-3In the final quarter. For seniors Brett Wanlass, Ameen Shaheen, Ron Gridley, Blake Heath, and Ben Wilson it was their final game playing for North Sevier. In the opening quarter, the Wolves stayed close to the Templars with five early free throws, but the Templars took the lead at the end of the first, 1 -- 7. nt two in the quarter, to finish with eight n the game North Sevier was outscored by Grantsville in the final quarter to keep a victory out of reach 8 The defeat sent North Sevier 52-5- into the consolation bracket The Wolves were lead by Ameen Shaheen with 16 points Brett Wanlass and Talin Zimmer each added 10 points Also scoring were Ron Gridley wdth 6, Josh Bastian with 6, and Hunter Shaheen vv 1 12. NSHS Cheerleaders help crowd spirit. North Seviers Hunter Shaheen started hitting shots in the second quarter and scored 8 points, including basket. The Wolves took care of the game nt ith 4 in the third quarter. Hunter Shaheen, Ameen Shaheen, and Talin Zimmer each hit three-poibaskets to put the Wolves ahead to stay. North Sevier outscored Manti by eight in the quarter, and entered the fourth quarter ; ahead, 42-3In the final quarter of the season, Ameen Shaheen took charge of the game and scored 8 quarter points. The Wolves outscored the Templars by two in the quarter to hold onto their lead. North Sevier won 60-5Ameen Shaheen lead the Wolves with 16 points. His brother, Hunter, added 14. Talin Zimmer and Brett Wanlass also reached double figures with 3. Ron Gridley finished out the Wol es scoring with 4. North Sevier finished fifth in the tournament.
