Show Page 2 Salina Sun Wednesday. March 10. 1999 NSMS honors Elk Foundation Salina let one slip away Dear Editor: To all the people of Salina: About a year ago I purehased a Diamond C Trailer dealership that was located in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dan was the man- ager of the business and helped us a lot. One day he told me the company in Texas wanted to build a new plant in Utah and he was going to Northern Utah to find a place for the plant. I told him I was from Utah and I thought Salina would be a great place for the new plant. He stated he would be hiring about 20 to 25 people to start with, and he planned to start their wages at $ 0 to $ 4 per hour. ( Dan was very interested in looking at the Salina area, so he made a trip to Sal ina and I i ked what he saw there. He came back and took his wife to Salina. She liked it, too. So Dan made a plan. He went to Salina and talked to the city fathers. They didn't like him or his ideas, sohe wenttoUtah Independent Bank. They laughed him out the door. When he returned to Las Vegas and told me what had happened to him, first I couldnt believe what he was telling me. After thinking about it awhile. I told him to go to Richfield, which he did. They opened their arms to him and his company. The banks were more than happy to finance him, and the city helped him get property in their industrial area. Andreason Builders did the construction work. I went up there this week to get our first load of Utah built Diamond C trailers. To all the people of Salina, I say, go take a look at the factory. Its across the street from the Coke plant south of Richfield in the industrial park. You people of Salina think you need nothing more than the coal mine to support your town. Im here to tell you thats wrong. You need things like this little factory. Why would you run him out of town? Dan told me he has advance orders for three months, and he is planning to enlarge the plant right now. He also told me he expects to hire about 45 people. When I took a tour of the plant I saw some people from the Aurora area working there. Thats great. I SAY SHAME ON YOU, SALINA, FORLETnNGTHISSLIPTHROUGH YOUR HANDS! Thisyearhas seen a lot of rebuilding and growth with the girls as they lost their entire starting lineup from last year. At the conclusion of the region loss to South Sevier that kept them from going to the state finals, 1 was impressed with Coach Larsens attitude. She stated, They tried hard. They played a lot better than in some oftheirgames lately. After an important loss like this, it would be easy to forget that the main purpose of high school athletics is to teach sportsmanship and character. It would be easy to blame and berate the players, but Coach Larsen has always shown respect for the girls and tries to help them learn from their experiences. 1 appreciate how the girls came away heart-breaki- Faith Baptist Church 165 S. 400 E., Salina 3 Phone (435) 529-399- Sunday School 9:30 a.m. Worship Service 10:30 a.m. Evening Service 6:00 p.m. with a positive experience.
