Jessica Slmklns Jessica Simkins, Monroe, Utah, daughter of Dr. Allen and Nanette Simkins, was recently crowned the Vs lip mi President Gerald Day to address Sterling Scholars at anniversary Snow College President Gerald J. Day is the featured speaker at the Sterling Scholars of Central Utah 25th Anniversary celebration on Saturday, March 22. The event, which recognizes Sterling Scholars and those who support the program, will beginning at 6 p.m. in the Greenwood Student Center on the Snow College Campus, Ephraim. Mark Anderson of Ephraim, committee chairman. will host the event. The originators of the Sterling Scholar Program in Central Utah are Raynal and Maridell Pearson, Orem. The Pearsons lived in Richfield when they started the program in the area 25 years ago. They are unable to attend the March 22 event, but they will be guests of honor at the 25th annual awards program April 3 in Bicknell. A son, Larry Pearson, is a 1979 winner in music at Richfield High School. L arry' and his wife, Jani, along with past Sterling Scholar committee Richard and Karen Chamberlain, all Richfield, will perform as a quartet at the March 22 program. Were happy that nearly 200 people will attend the dinner, program and dance, said Anderson. Registration is at 6:00 p.m., after which participants will have their choice of a ham or roast beef dinner, free of charge, he said. The dinner will be catered by Snow College under the direction of Brian Plum. Past winners, runner-up- s and others who attend the event will be recognized during the program. Anniversary booklets listing names of past winners and runners-u- p and current nominees will be distributed. Several former winners and runners-u- p have agreed to bring their portfolios for display. Following the program, a dance will be held. Original committee members include Winegene Eyre, Kirk Wright, Louise Seeley, Demont Howell, Woodrow Beck, Dee Severson, Roger Nielson, Sam Newton, DeOna Oyler, Beverly Cannon, Winston Gleave, Max T. To honor them on this special occasion, their family held a dinner and a fun day of games and visiting. Those in attendance were six sons and their v. ives; Ronald and Jerrie, Newell and Mary Ann, Jarvis and Ladonna, David and Carol, Mike and Kim, and Scott and Janet. Also to help them celebrate were 21 grandchildren and 28 Grandpa and Grandma Hatch have been a big part of all these childrens lives and hope that they know how important they are to all of them. Their family is grateful for the 60 years Lloyd and Nellie have spent together and for sharing them with so many others. , Jamie Malone and Jason Brown Jason Brown and Jamie Malone will be married on Friday, March 21, 1997, in the Manti LDS Temple. Jason is the son of Bishop Rex and Kathy Brown of Centerfield and Jamie is the daughter of Bill and Jan Malone, formerly of Provo, Utah, now living in Price, Utah. Jason is a 1992 graduate of Gunnison Valley High School and served a LDS Mission in San Bernar- dino, California. He has attended Snow College and is currently in Logan, Utah attending Utah State University. Jamie graduated from Mountain View High School in Orem, Utah in 1994. At Snow College she was a member of the LD Singers and plans to continue her studies at USU. Therald began his career in 1960 with the Sanpete County Welfare Office as a caseworker after graduating from Provo High School and Brigham Young University. Since then he has worked as the Sanpete County Welfare Director, Director of the Assistant Payment Office, Director of the Community Operations Department (a unified service delivery program), and Associate Regional Director for the Office of Family Suparea and port for both the the County area. He also did graduate work at Brigham Young University during this time. Therald is very honored by the unique fact that he has been able to spend the entire 36 years of his service career in the Manti Office. Wernz is a retired Petty Officer with the US Navy Reserves.
