March 2?, Coach says 'Thank you' Dear Editor, I have contemplated writing many letter to the editor mainly because I wanted to complain about something or I was angiy about another. I have decided to take a totally different ap- proach and write a letter of thanks. I have been a part of Gunnison Val- ley for almost twenty years now. It has only been in these last few months that I have realized how big a part of me the valley is. I have had many great opportunities placed before me as a direct result of being a part of this valley. These past two years I have been entrusted with many of your children as a teacher and a coach, it is upon this aspect of things I wish to expand. Just today our eighth grade team took their second championship trophy home in two weeks. I would like to name those boys here: Jason Pickett, Rory Hansen, Landry Reynolds, Adam Peterson, Danny Jorgensen, Nick Rosenvall, Chris Jensen, Greg Jensen, Aaron Hill, Daren Frandsen, and T.J. Petersen. For me this wasnt all about winning and championships. I learned from these boys what it was to be an example in sportmanship and in representing what they really believe in. I wish I could be like you. To the valley residents - you have made this a great place for this kid to live. I will be proud of my roots wherever I go and one day if it all works out I want to make my own home here and try to give back what I have received. God Bless our home, Todd Brown state workers get their compensation package? Dear Editor, During the past legislative session, it was reported that state workers received a four percent compensa- tion package. This representation is a farce. Over 2,500 state workers will receive no pay increase from this packa age because they are in longevity station designating senior, experienced status but without benefit of enhanced compensation. These people are just like every citizen of Utah. They have families. They are diligent, dedicated workers and they have been neglected. In fact, other state workers have only been granted a 2.75 percent increase in pay if their performance is satisfactory to their supervisors. If you have a family member or a neighbor who is a state employee, ask him or her directly, How much of a pay increase will you see from the four percent compensation package?" You will be amazed at the answer. The Legislature failed its own employees. Good managers dont let their employees down during good times. I hope all state employees will contact their legislators and share their feelings. Sincerely, Utah Public Employees Association Nancy Sechrest Executive Director leaf Editor, We will publish signed Letters to the Editor weekly. Wilcox, announced today the formation of the Insurance Fraud Division, a division of his department charged with the responsibility of investigating and prosecuting insurance fraud matters. Wilcox has advised that the division will investigate fraud ranging from simple claimant fraud involving claim exaggeration to complex cases pertaining to staged automobile accidents and medical practitioner fraud. The division will also investigate dishonest insurance practices perpetrated on the public. Commissioner Wilcox advised that insurance fraud is a growing national problem and that Utah has seen a dramatic increase in all types of insurance fraud. Each year there is an excess of $350 million lost in the State of Utah and the public picks up the tab in the form of higher insurance premiums. According to Wilcox, the public should be outraged at having to pay for this loss. The new Fraud Division is being manned by experienced and well trained individuals. The Director, to the division. David Gardner, an assistant attorney with the State Attorney Generals office has been assigned e to the division to prosecute I insurance fraud. The investigators have extensive experience in the insurance industry in white collar crime and investigations. Another key individual in this operation is the computer specialist who is connecting the unit with various national and local informational and law enforcement data bases to help the unit track fraud scams and their perpetrators. Not only will the computer system be closely connected with the local enforcement agencies, but the members of the Fraud Unit will work closely with various local agencies in the investigation of fraud on all levels. As in every law enforcement effort, the Insurance department is depending on the honest segment of society to assist the Insurance Fraud Division in identifying those responsible for fraud. The Insurance Department has established a Fraud Hot-Lifor the purpose of soliciting the publics help. The number is and will be manned between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. full-tim- ne David Lattin, was with the FBI for 28 years and brings extensive white collar crime and supervisory experience 1 Salina Producers Action For Tuesday, March 14, 1995 RECEIPTS: 2106 LAST WEEK: 1522 LAST YEAR: 2375.
