Fourjuveniles have been referred to court fortheburglary and felony theft of equipment and keys from North Sevier High School. According to Salina Police Chief Gordon Keisel, on or about the 28th of February a master key was taken from the school and then used on or about March 6th in the burglary. Besides various components of sound equipment, a four-hea- d VCR was taken theft and total about the alledgedly by youth. Resulting damage with entire the $1500 going to rekey $4100, building. In another recent burglalry and break-iwhich occurred on or about March 8th at Freeway Texaco, the individual entered via the roof. An undisclosed amount of money was taken, but a suspect has been arrested. Then, last Saturday evening, Eugene Peterson was arrested by Salina Police officers for DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving w hich reportedly exceeded speeds of 60 miles per hour in the residential streets. In 1 994 state and local firefighters fought 703 w ildland fires. That is w ell above the 10 year average of 468 fires. A total of 108,198 acres of private and state owned land was involved in the fires. The average for the past 10 years was 28.458 acres. Suppression costs to the state and counties for the 1994 season were approximately $6.3 million. But, the estimated value of property and resources saved by fire fighting efforts was $46.2 million. Estimated losses were $3.1 million. The conditions which led to the severity of the 1994 season included a large quantity of fuels remaining from 1993, a diy w inter and spring and continued drought. The summer of 1994 had high temperatures and extended periods w ithout measurable precipitation. Salt Lake City recorded 21 dajs with high record set in temperatures of 100 degrees or more. That tied the all-ti1960. Wildland firefighters were stretched to the absolute limit. Even body performed well beyond the regular call of duty, State Forester Art DuFault said. We also need to recognize the people of Utah who were so good about all w ildfires complying with fire restrictions. In a regular year, about are human caused. Last year, with the w orst conditions ever, humans caused only 48 of the fires. Thank you Utah! he stated. and Lora Peterson joins Sun Staff Joining the staff of the Salina Sun is Lora J. (Pearce) Peterson as a. marketing of 5 register for summer baseball with the Babe Ruth Baseball Association. of will register the same day, J 6:30 to 8 pm at one of the following locations. In Salina it will be held at the Salina Library. Auroras will be at their firehouse. And for Redmond it will be at the city hall. Everyone from last year is encouraged to bring pants, socks and other equipment from prior years. The league , ' is short and needs any items to outfit the players for this year. A $5.00 late fee will be charged for any sign-u- ps after the March 27th deadline. No registrations will be accepted after April 1st. And the league stresses there will be no exceptions. This will add a few more parking areas for people doing business at the city offices, or enjoying the city library. The Blackhawk Arena will play host to the USTRA this weekend. The event draws nearly 800 individuals, compiling nearly 1,200 teams of ropers. She graduated with honors and was named SLCCs Business Student of the Year. Peterson recently moved back to Salina with her two children. She will be making calls on local businesses in the area.
