It was interesting that in a 24 hour period of rime recently 2 1,000 tons of coal were hauled off the mountain and the average for 24 hours is around 16,000 tons. It was interesting to me and I thought it might be worth a Dan Valentines - Nothing Serious MONDAY WASH LINE: Did you know that at one time, all the pole vault records in Utah were held by four lads from Elsinore, Sevier . when the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources announced its reorganization plans. An alternative considered would eliminate the Divisions research biologist positions in Logan, Provo and Ephraim-weaken- ing the development link in the partnership chain. The partnership was founded in 1954 following public outcries about the starvation of thousands of deer on Utahs winter ranges. The Division of Wildlife Resources requested the cooperation of scientists with the Forest Services Intermountain Research Station who had the skills and knowledge to help the State launch a new program to improve winter range. The States critical role in the partnership has been to link scientists with both private land owners and Federal land mangers, putting science to work for wildlife by im- proving habitat. s Gunnison implsmsni 62 South Hein if! Gunnison, Utah The Pittman-Robertso- n Wildlife Restoration Act has paid for 75 percent of the States cost in providing the technology transfer link. The States biologists have been especially effective in transferring and scientific information because the State is responsible for wildlife farms and ranches, in addition to wildlife on lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management, the Forest Service, and others. Over-itlife, the partnership and its cooperating scientists were recognized for their accomplishments and given some of the highest awards granted by the Forest Service, the USDA Soil Conservation Service, the Society for Range Management, and Wildlife society.
