privilege of meeting together in a conference capacity A few days before the time elder wagstaff notified the elders that conference would be held at two mile kanawha county on yn the and of the month then began the march forward to the place of happy meeting where we arrived the evening before saturday morning alt ait 1030 found us all in our places elder A P kelser presided after the usual opening exercises brother kesler stated that he would like to hear fromi from all the elders during conference and hoped all would hadean have an enjoyable time at the close of the demoon atter at noon session it was announced that priesthood meeting would convene directly after the close meeting began at continuing about three hours which passed very rapidly the elders all gave in their reports f for or the last six months which were favor sible in most every way the conference was found to be in a flourishing flouris hinig condition after the reports were all given to in elder kesler gave us many valuable instructors instruct ons in regard to our labors before the close of the meeting elder benjamin fullmer Pu llmer in behalf of the elders presented our conf conference arence president elder J C wagstaff who had just been released to return home with a watch charm as a small token of respect and gratitude we all join in wishing brother wagstaff a safe journey home he has had the privilege after filling an honorable mission of 28 months long before the time of commenting commencing sunday morning the house was filled with people anxiously walting walt lnig for the announcement of the hymn the taime was taken up by a few of the elders who spoke upon the various principles of the gospel at the close of the meeting brother kesler announcement that the conference president was released land and that elder eider J ernest dewey had been appointed appon ted to succeed him he also stated that the poca and two ailee branches were disorganized and that Mission arys experience on the 2nd and day of april last I 1 left salt lake city to fill a mission to great britain I 1 landed in liverpool Diver pool on the of april and on the was sent to travel in the scottish conference I 1 arrived in glasgow on the and was appointed to travel in the fife district landing there on the I 1 began my missionary labors the week following people in Ss atland are very kind and hospitable it is a fine country to preach in but the air is damp and foggy before the month of july I 1 contracted a severe cold by which I 1 was almost unable to pursue my labors the trouble continued to increase till I 1 was loosing the power of my lower limbs and breathing became most difficult on the of august I 1 was joined by a young elder from salt lake city joseph H a L very pleasant companion when able we would travel preach and converse and tract we could see good results from our labors about the end of september our late bro muir who died in lochgelly Loch gelly was sent to tg assist me for some time at least the day he crane came to dunfermline tuesday I 1 was not able to go and met him though only eight miles but bro went and I 1 went on sunday morning and met bro muir at meeting that day my release was in the star of the 2nd and of october I 1 turned over everything to the brethren bro muir was sick on the morning I 1 left the ath of oct but I 1 thought it only transitory but he gra gradually duall got worse till dying on the since I 1 came home I 1 have very little recovered I 1 can hardly move around to all elders that assiter me on my corners I 1 have got go ao that I 1 rather like street preaching I 1 have had a great many gospel conversations and I 1 find that much of the old bitter hatred toward boward us is fast disappearing fai this becton and we find many honest people we travel a great deal in the country we are now getting ourselves in shape for winter work we are being sent to different cities where we go from house to house with tracts and trying g to get into next spring and summer we will go into the country occasionally casio caslo nally as we have done this summer and reach the farmers the ministers give us a wide berth and are afraid to converse with us but they close thedr churches against us and wont let us have them to preach in W hold meetings in private residences and on the streets and teach the alleghany Alleg hany bany co md on oct 22 and 23 and enjoyed a spiritual feast characteristic te of a mormon conference there were present elder A P kesler president of the eastern states miss sion elder M M decker president of the maryland con conference terence and thirteen travel traveling lilg elders besides a number of saints and friends from other bra bratches bram ches inches conference conven convened edat at 10 a TO saturday at the residence of brother isaac collins Ool lins this meeting of a testimonial character and each elder spoke and bore a testimony to the truth of the gospel at 2 p m the elders assembled in priesthood meeting at which the spirit of god was doured out in rich abundance each elder reported his labors and gave a summary of the work accomplished complis hed in his field during the summer the reports generally were encouraging and showed a marked improve maent over the previous six months better success seemed to attend the labors of the elders in the rural districts than in the large cities and for this reason only two elders were sent back to baltimore instead of six elder kesler said he was pleased with the progress made and commended commanded the elders for their effort he gave many instructions pertaining to our high and holy calling three well attended meetings were held on sunday in the odd |
