| Show COLLEGE anniversary yesterday nov 15 1898 the twelfth year of the existence of the latter day saints college was completed the day was celebrated as has been customary for some years by the granting of a holiday to the students and the passing of the time in appropriate exercises erel ses at noon on OB invitation of the young ladles the students and teachers met at the college building and partook of dainty refreshments an hour was then passed in the rendering of an informal program including addresses by teachers and students and other entertaining features the main gathering of the day oc incurred currad at 2 p m when students teach ers era and friends met in the assembly room of the college there were present representatives of the general board of education the stake board college board and other ather p prominent ra eminent visitors the proceedings opened a hymn sung by the college c hoir choir r asat AS jt prayer was offered by prof jod jed all woolley fl mr jean clayton rendered very W a piano solo and res responds nd to an encore with a humorous belfi tion J dr james E talmage formerly vivo tj 4 cipal al of the college delivered an a dress briefly recounting the history t tc the institution and expressing reg that it is not better endowed BS recognized the fact that there dav great field for denominational acl of secondary grade especially am I 1 the latter day saints he comm commee ed the kind of training afforded in college and expressed the hope that institution would grow rapidly un until should accomplish all the work aia fulfill the destiny intended for it ia heartily commended the designs such institutions and gave god sper to the college 9 4 v prof prank frank wightman sang a ba laft tone solo and responded to a heart hearty encore lolI I 1 president angus M cannon fol follow j with brief historical and comme el tory remarks with reference to the ha ution he recounted the diffin and growth of the past and espre the hope that the pupils trained in college would understand the gt destiny before them and do eve every rythia in their power to swell the ranks C useful practical citizens ready for emergencies miss joste josie morris recited the mone mon musk and in response to an en enoki rendered another of her most dumot burno ous feie selections c alon s j by special request mr clayton real dered allano a piano selection which was f Qs lowed by a recitation most moat pleast pleasing given by miss blanche thomas vl also responded to an encore 1 the college song the gold and ird blue was sung by the students ts 8 benediction was pronounced by karl G maeser last evening the students and goodly number of their friends as aisea led bled at Christen sens hall and passed very pleasant evening in a social p part all who enjoyed the pleasures of tl anniversary day were hearty in th expressions of good will for the colleg colle and wishes for its conti continued and I 1 ta creased prosperity |
