Show A LETTER FROM RHODE ISLAND 25 river st providence R I 1 dec 10 1897 I 1 left my home at bluff dale salt lake county utah july 16 15 1896 and after a journey of nearly twenty seven hundred miles I 1 arrived here where I 1 have labored most of the time we found many of the people fenced in by a wall of prejudice which thanks to our father is gradually giving way before the rays of truth we have been able to reach some of the honest in heart and lead five repentant believers into the waters of baptism and several others say they will follow soon last june while elder 0 0 crockett and I 1 were traveling without purse or scrip through central massachusetts we had the pleasure of meeting a mrs mary H thompson who said she had heard so much evil spoken of the mor mons that she had been led to think there must be some good in them our conversation lasted for about twenty five minutes before leaving we gave her a voice of aarni warning na and it is the fruit of this little message that I 1 wish particularly to call to the attention of your readers about six months after our meeting mrs thompson we received a letter and a poem from her which was an am exceedingly agreeable surprise to us since then I 1 have received two letters from her in which she recognizes our relation to the rest of the christian world and is patiently awaiting an opportunity to be buried in the watery grave by one of the servants of god this is the leter referred to east brookfield oct 29 1897 mr dunyon providence R I 1 deax dear sir sip last june two mormon elders visited this place and from them I 1 first learned the doctrines of the mormon church and was struck by their purity they were so different from anything I 1 had heard of the mor mons before one of them also gave me a little little book called the voice of warning which I 1 prize very much it was by reading it that I 1 caught the inspiration to a poem which I 1 send jo to you in the hope that you can mare some use of it in your publications and that it may do some good you are welcome to it and can keep it whether you publish it or not as I 1 have another copy after reading the book I 1 had a great desire to read the book of mormon and as you told me to write to you for other publications I 1 would like to know if you can furnish the book and what la in the price of it respectfully MRS MARY H THOMPSON east brookfield mass I 1 have sent mrs thompson a book of mormon at her request and trust it will be no less fruitful than was the voice of warning during the last two months we have b been een holding meetings in a small hall here the rent of which to Is paid by the saints and friends the elders of this conference are all welland ell since our conference which was held in cambridge nov and have been assigned and gone to their various fields of labor for tho the winter I 1 have been assigned to labor with a new companion eder samuel knight of warren weber county utah and our field of labor is lynn mass should any of your readers having friends in this vicinity desire us to ta call upon them we will gladly do soon receipt of their name and address ever laboring and praying for the spread of truth and the welfare of the human family we remain your brethren in the gospel of christ J W DUNYON SAMUEL KNIGHT no 8 stickley st lynn mass |
