one hundred and fourteenth quorums of seventy were reported by their respective presidents counslor james H hart and eidet ia B H roberts also spoke the farmei ye porting the condition of the bear ake H smith and J W taylor of the apostles were present and gave much instruction to the saints in relation to their duties and expounded the principles of the gospel to young and old reports showed the stake to be in a prosperous condition especial mention was made that the missionaries who have been traveling among the people yere doing good A sunday school conference was held on the ath of march with a a large attendance through the entire econ ference sister cornelia home clayton from provo city has ha been vi alting the various wards of this stake during the past week in behalf of the young ladies journal she gave an am interesting and instructive lecture to the young men end and young ladles ladies on sunday evening of the conference which was large ly attended J M COSBY stake clerk st george stake to the editor saturday morning march 12 the relief societies of the stake began their conference under their stake president ann C woodbury and her counselors elder abraham 0 woodruff of the council of the apostles apostle I 1 elder seymour 13 young of the first first council of seventies prest daniel D mcarthur of the st george stake and his second counselor erastus bi snow and other brethren met with the sisters and on invitation addressed those assembled encouraging and blessing them in their labor of love the sisters continued their conference in the afternoon without the presence of any of the brethren because the latter were engaged in the priesthood meeting of the stake under the presidency of elder D D mcarthur and his counselors the usual interests of the stake were reported and treated upon and a circular letter from the presidency and high council to the bishops and off officers leers and members of the wards composing the wards of the stake was read and approved because of the infirmity of our ven erable and falth faithful ful brother elder william fawcett president of the high of st george stake of thirty six years he was honorably released 1 lite were kept in aal w organized condition and in active exercise sunday morning following a short session of the sunday school which was addressed by elders woodruff fr and seymour B young the regular quarterly stake conference began its sessions with an unusually large attendance after preliminary remarks by elder mcarthur together with a brief report of the stake elder young discoursed on the faith and doctrines of the church of christ as entertained bained by latter day saints morning meeting concluded by elder john R terrys report of his twenty seven months recent labors in the missionary field sunday afternoon the sacrament was administered and the general and aaa stake authorities of the church were presented and unanimously sustained elder woodruff lafter after making a few remarks called upon elder samuel knight to relate some gome of his experience and observation when in nauvoo IU ill in august 1844 brother knight said he was at the meeting where sidney rigdon set up his claim to be guardian of the church after the martyrdom of the prophet joseph and patriarch hyrum brother knight testified that on that occasion he was waa an ear ea and an eye witness that the ballard of grafton ward elder woodruff concluded by remarks on the benefits resulting from sustaining home industries and on the advantages of young men devoting their labors to agriculture horticulture and manufacturing pursuits instead of their going to mining camps to work monday afternoon meeting was addressed by elder T R reeves reates returned missionary of virgen vargen city and with his second counselor charles M layton and sister bister cornelia horne home clayton from utah who to is traveling in the interest inhere at of the young ladies of zion their visit was highly appreciated her and every one onel hated to see them leave they arrived here on sunday morning march 27 1898 in the morning they visited the sunday school and after the usual exercises they spoke very encouragingly to the children and the officers of the sunday school were pleased to see us progressing so rapidly and to be up with ith the rest of the schools in the stake in our studies I 1 at 1 I p m the house was crowded to its utmost capacity after the opening exercises elder kimball spoke to the saints on various subjects especially on prayer following him was elder layton who stated that it after all business matters had bad been settled tn in our priesthood meeting elder kimball spoke the power of the priesthood all tile the then joined tn in prayer and never was such a humble and the lA terest of the various organizations slater sister clayton followed exhorting ell to live their religion and not shirk from the responsibilities which are placed upon Us come what may elder kemball spoke upon showing respect for the dead and on the law of tithing elders ij bayton made some remarks in to the academy at p m the saints were dismissed aad a number of war our young sisters gathering and farewell party the evening was sant in singing recitations and music elder kimball Kimba 11 also giving us a lecture by diagrams on the blackboard he also gave a lecture on the power of the priesthood illustrating by diagrams of the human body and a tree at 1030 p m all said goad bye to our esteemed visitors and they were driven to benson where elder kimball and sister clayton took the train for salt lake city elder layton layfon returning to his home in thatcher graham county arizona their visit will never be forgotten by the saints here for never was such a spirit of unity
