| Show WHY MISS WILLARD GAVE up HER WORK AS AN EDUCATOR in 1871 miss willard was made dean of the womans comans college of northwestern university and professor of esthetics in the university in the womans comans Wo mans college she developed her system of self governments government which has hag been adopted by other educators it was while at the head of this institution that an incident occurred which gave her to the world as aa the great leader of the temperance cw reform movement had it n not ot bee been n tar f or her disagreement with rev C H fowler now bishop who succeeded dr haven as president of northwestern Northwest em university over the question of discipline miss willard might have remained at the head of the Wom comans womans lans col lege until the day of her death dr fowler declared that the faculty of the university proper would be the final court in all matters pertaining to the conduct of the young ladles ladies rattier rather than the faculty of the womans comans college this meant the abolishment ot 0 miss willards Wll lards plan of self government and to this proposition she could not assent and hence resigned her pogi position to bishop fowler therefore belongs the credit of giving to the world the eminent leader that afterwards developed the greatest organization of women I 1 ever known to the annals of ad it was after this disagreement that miss willard left her chosen profession of teaching to identify herself with the growing womans comans christian temperance union she was elected corresponding po anding secretary of the n national a t I 1 on ea organization and de developed such zeal and aptitude for the work that in 1879 she was honored py by being elected national pres dent from pr frances a ne es E willard Willar dl the best beet known woman of the century 11 in Dem orests pamily family magazine tor for may |
