| Show IN SUMMIT STAKE ephraim sanpete county utah the conference of the sanpete stake of zion took place on the and of february 1898 1899 in ephraim elder george teasdale Tea adale of the council of the apostles was present at the opening of the conference president george Q cannon arrived at the open ing of the second meeting elder canute peterson president of the stake elders henry beal and john B malben maiben counselors rider elder mcallister McAllist cr from the temple elder robinson president of the wayne stake and members of the high council and a L good representation of the bishops of the wards were in attendance conference opened at 10 a m of the by singing and prayer by elder henry beal elder peterson made a few remarks bishops hans jenson ii I i S anderson andersen and C R dorlus reported the condition of their wards as being good the tithing is somewhat on the increase the saints have been liberal in their fast donations and the needs of the poor have been well supplied elder teasdale said he was interested in the bishops reports he advised the young people to preserve themselves in purity and spoke of the deadly effect of unchaste conduct he said where people refuse to pay their tithing they should be visited in their homes and given to understand that if they still refuse they cannot hold fellowship in the church and so in relation to all the laws of god after the singing of an anthem by the choir and benediction recess was taken to 2 p m 2 p m president george Q cannon expressed his pleasure in seeing so amany many at the meeting he spoke first of the foolish ideas that obtain in relation to religion and later of the condition of the peo pleIn the first settlement of this country the extreme I scarcity of provisions and clothing of all kinds of tools for farming and mechanical ch anical pursuits etc he pointed out that peace and good will then prevailed and contrasted former conditions with those of the present time the latter day saints he said must be a pure people in the midst of a world full of vice and corruption the choir sang an anthem elder robinson president of the wayne stake said they desired to have about thirty families go over into that stake into what Is known as blue valley as the people need help to develop the resources of the valley whatever claims they have they axe are willing to i divide up ud with those who move in except their orchards conference adjourned to 10 to a m sunday singing and benediction at 7 p m a priesthood meeting was held attended by the sisters as well as the brethren much valuable instruction was given by president george Q i cannon and elder teasdale sunday school assembled at 9 a m on sunday and was in session until 1030 1045 a m conference opened by singing and prayer elder john IL malben maiben said this is the conference cdo fereno held in this stake since its tion he spoke of the many blessings enjoyed by the saints and expressed the good feelings he entertained for the president of the stake elder henry beal expressed his pleasure ea in meting so many of the saints ants in conference and endorsed the policy af pf f taking the conferences to the people so that the aged and mothers with large families could have an opportunity to see and hear the leading authorities thorit ties les of the church he desired to sustain and assist elder peterson to the utmost of his power and asked the blessings of god upon them elder teasdale Tea adale was the next speaker he spoke ke of the work yet before the saints to build the temple at the center stake of zion the choir sang an am anthem and after benediction recess was taken until I ft p m 2 p m after opening exer exercise clade sacrament was administered eldre J B malben maiben presented the general and stake authorities and all were sustained ned by unanimous vote statistical reports of the stake were weft read the names of tour four elders we were presented and sustained to be or ordained dalbed high priests president george Q cannon then delivered an instructive discourse on the tha plan of salvation the choir sang an anthem and benediction was pronounced by elder tees te dale conference adjourned for three months GEORGE TAYLOR clerk dieb |
