Show IN NORTH ALABAMA conference big cove madison co ala sept 1897 the forty elders comprising the north alabama conference arrived here to convene in annual conference friday last with the exception of E C penrose who through lameness was not able to leave etawah county the fatigues of a long dusty walk were pon eon forgotten in the affectionate greetings of the elders and the hearty welcome accorded by the hospitable people of the settlement through a misunderstanding some opposition was raised by a number of the prominent citizens but all difficulties were satisfactorily facto rily adjusted through the inde efforts of elders joseph mcgregor and james E brown first and second assistants to elder albert matheson president of the conference and their companions elders geo E hill and D B P felt great credit is due these brethren for their zeal in preparing for this thi event deep regret was manifested by each elder on learning that our misson miss on president elder E S kimball bould not the be present on account of illness yet all felt to bow in meek submission to the will of him who ruleth all things our hearts rejoiced to welcome once agatia again our worthy brother elder matheson who was called from our midst to labor in the office at chattanooga anc who has been traveling the past few months in elder E S kimballs Kim balls ca x lacity through the several conferences and is now in our midst as his hl representative friday was spent in priesthood Priest hooI meeting and in preparing for the public meetings on the morrow at night the elders and people assembled at the pleasant home of mr W D buford where a most enjoyable time wa was 8 spent in listening to songs sPee speeches chefs and recitations saturday sept after a council meeting which lasted from till lv a m we repaired to a large bowery and found the people awaiting our arrival elder mcgregor calleo the meeting to order and made a brier brief explanation of the object of the con
