presiding the ward choir sang some very appropriate i ate h hymns prayer was offered by elder joseph R morgan the speakers Bp eakers were elders joseph E F taylor elijah F sheets hamilton G park A N hill samuel W richards B R T burton and john Y smith all spoke of the sterling qualities ot of the deceased and his faithfulness to the work of god some of the speakers having been acquainted with him since 1840 james ure was the son of james and janet mccale ure and was born june jane 11 1817 in bridge ot of weir renfrew shire hire scotland he was among the first to receive the gospel in scotland being ba aner baptized baptised timed sed april 10 1840 by elder alexander wright he was ordained a teacher june 6 1840 by elder reuben Hed look august 1 1840 he was ordained to the office of priest by elder samuel he then commenced to preach the grapel in his him native land in company with elders charles and robert hamilton on october 8 1841 he was ordained an elder on th the of march 1844 he resigned his secular employment and devoted all his time to the service of god on the ath of april 1841 he was called to preside over ever the sheffield conference in england and was ordained a high priest by elder reuben Hed look on mhd of october 1849 he and his family arrived in salt lake valley he crossed the ocean in the ship being nine weeks on the water creasea crossed the plains in george A smiths and E T bensons Ben sona company of saints he passed through many trials in early days was in the indian trouble at grantsville Granis Grants ville in the summer of 1851 he ha has been on two missions to the old world since coming to utah in 1877 he was set apart as first counselor te elder F M lyman who was then president of the theTo thoele tooele oele stake of zion some years year ago he removed to kamas kamais summit county where he resided until his death which took place july jelv 1897 on nov ath 1894 he wa ordained a patriarch under the hands of elders lorenzo snow F D richards and F M lyman he has spent a useful life in ia the work of 0 god and has gone to rest with the assurance of a glorious resurrection COM JENS HANSON elder jn jeas s hin hanaan seir one of the 73 old and respected citizens of spanish fork passed away from this life at his home monday june on friday previous just as a he had come me home from the old volke folks gathering in salt lake went over to one OF J his daughter daught erfe homes and watched ole men raise a hay stock pole this fell and struck him on the head he was carried to the house hous but never gained consciousness brother hanson hansen was born in otter Otte rop on ayen denmark oct 13 1823 he us vv was as one of the first to join the church in that country he emigrated to america in 1863 1853 and settled in spanish fork at the april conference 1865 he was called to perform a mission to his native country where he labored faithfully two and a half years and returned home october ath IM 1868 at the october con ference fe renoe 1878 he again was called to so ga on a mission to denmark he labored in the copenhagen conference somewhat more than a year in the mouth month of may 1885 he was once more called to go on a mission to navia giavia this time he labored faithfully for over thre eyears nearly all the time on the island of lie he returned home in june 1888 and soon after was ordained one ot of the seven presidents of the nineteenth quorum of seventy brother hansen had bad labored as a missionary over two years before he first came to this country and had therefore spent ent nearl nearly nine years in foreign missions bonx at kome home he was industrious and assisted in developing the be country and was in every respect a good citizen he was the father of 41 children and had 81 grandchildren at the time of his death the funeral services were held in spanish fork meeting house on july lot 1897 conducted by bishop A nelson the house was filled to overflowing the eakers were bishop nelson prest C born bom may 23 1822 near Boula Boul over woodhouse Wood bouse derbyshire england died july 8 1897 she was the youngest of a family of ton ten children two sons none and eight daughters on aug 13 1849 she married samuel briggs by whom she had five sons sone four of whom are now living one having preceded hot her to the great beyond many years ago she joined the church of jesus christ of latter day saints in aug 1849 was baptized and confirmed by thomas thomas davenport emigrated in connection with her husband from england to america nov 10 1849 crossed the at antic in the ship after being on thel ocean six weeks and two days arrived in now new orleans on christmas day finally traveled up the mississippi by boat to st louis stayed there that winter in the spring of 1850 they continued their course up the mississippi to council bluffs iowa stopped but a short time there and moved on to a small branch of the church called springville Spring ville on n Mus quito creek next moved to a place called keg kag creek in iowa stayed there shere until the spring of 1852 during this time they were making preparations to arose the almost trackless desert to he rocity booky mountains the undertaking was began by ox team and after a peril our journey avei hill desert and plain and suffering from cold hunger and a latigue fatigue for many days they arrived in salt lake city october 7 1852 the they y almost immediately moved to lehi where she ohe resided until the time of her death she has ass had her share of pioneer life and has done much to build up op the country it would be hard to find a more imore honest hard working and industrious woman than she has been sister brigge was able to perform her own housework up to within about three weeks before her demise when she was taken ill with heart trouble on perin deuced by b old age and general debility during kar her sickness she bore her affliction patiently and with the satisfaction that her relatives and friends were waiting for her on the other side of the veil all was done that relatives and kind friends could do to comfort and alleviate ber sufferings but to no avail she passed peacefully at the date above stated she leaves a husband four sons twenty grandchildren and many friends to mourn her departure too much cannot be said in terms of praise to those who so kindly assisted in any way for her while upon her bed of affliction especially upon her four sons fiona who waited upon her night and day and spared no means within their power to restore her health if possible the funeral services were held at the family residence and were conducted by E H davis jr brother J L gibb of the choir and his sides aides were in attendance and rendered beautifully the opening piece when I 1 can read bead my title clear brother B W brown delivered the opening prayer remarks were made by bv brothers wm bone jr E H davis sr si wm yates and E H davis jr all of whom spoke in the highest terms of praise concerning the deceased of her previous character and the faithful testimonies she bad borne the choir sang mid scenes scene of confusion and services servi cei were dismissed di missed by brother george corner the remains enclosed in a beautiful casket were then placed in the hearse and followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of people in carriages and other vehicles and in the lehi cemetery was laid to rest one of the noble daughters of eve who died in full fall faith of the gospel and in the testimony of jesus and in the hope of a glorious resurrection E S millennial star please copy MARY MAKY NIELSEN butterfield salt lake county has been called to mourn the loss lose of one ol of its young ung and active members sister mary melson nielsen butterfield wife ol of zacariah Za carlah tah butterfield and daughter of james and mathilds mathilda nielsen who died suddenly 4 p m july after an illness of but a few hours sister butter field was healthy and happy and in the full bloom of womanhood on the evening of ei the 3rd ard she in connection with her husband paid a visit to her parents after returning to their home illness seized her accompanied by severe vomiting which lasted for several hours and through the heavy strain it is in thought that a blood vessel and caused her death sister butterfield was married but a few months ago her loss is greatly mourned by two small stepchildren step children who have been fondly attached to her by her husband who is yet in the bloom of manhood and who in lose less than two years has laid away two promising young wives he now being left for a time and by her parents who a few years ago lost three of their chil children drent two daughters and one son one by brights disease and two b by diphtheria the wife of john A hunt aged 68 years 6 months and 8 days she was a daughter of richard H and ann tilt was born jan 16 1834 at Covent coventry rv england was baptized in 1850 by elder alfred cordon emigrated to america in 1856 remained in broo brooklyn k with her parents three years crossed abe the plains in 1859 by ox team arriving at salt lake city where in the oi of sept the same year she was married to john A hunt hum by president brigham young afterwards settling at grants ville tooele thoele county utah where she elivea lived until the fall of 1864 when she with her husband removed to bear lai lake ke valley idaho and has since made her home at st charles enduring all the hardships hardship sot ot the early pioneers of tola valley her husband wax was the bisho bishop ot at this ward for more than twenty ut years slater sister hunt left her native land and friends for the sake make of the gospee and although she has been a sufferer for years she was never known to 00 oom
