Show missionaries IN tennessee aar apr april il xyth 1897 I 1 left my mv home september ard 3rd xea for a mission to the southern states I 1 was appointed to labor with elder A L cullimore I 1 met my companion in laurence county on the xyth of september affer paying the saints saint and friends a visit we bade them goodbye good bye and started on our journey to lo chester cheater county a distance of ninety miles with a grip and umbrella pass we entered henderson the county seat bastin tasting and praying and now we have finished canvassing this county we being the first elders in this county we found much prejudice against our people but it has been lessened and dozens of friends have been made many of which shed tears at seeing us leave them therel there are a number who have expressed themselves as being ready for baptism only they are afraid of persecution cution there are bright prospects for a fatute harvest here we are receiving the best of treatment at times we are turned away from the doors of some at night but have learned by experience not to complain for there is always a kind friend awaiting our arrival and who is proud of the principles ot of entertaining the servants of the lord some of our warm est and best friends are a merchant I 1 W nash and family who make us eat a lunch every time we come in town also J S barret stewart and others who are like parents to the elders I 1 am now traveling with elder H A grover who has been out from home twenty six months we are both enjoying the best of health we are now awaiting the arrival of the president of our conference elder N P nelson who succeeded our worthy eldera elder J D C young recently returned to his moun tain home CHAS COLLETT H A GROVER |
