moving to the Ogden area in 1979 She graduated from Moberly High School and attended Moberly Junior College the University of Missouri Central Missouri State College and Culver Stockton College She was a member of the First Christian Church of Ogden Mrs Matthews had been a teacher in the Moberly Mo Public Schools was the society editor of the Canton Press News a partner in Matthews Men's Wear an executive assistant at the University of Missouri and director of the Canton Senior Citizens Center She had also been the librarian at the Canton Mo Public Library She was a member of the Lewis County Commission on Aging and was president of the Missouri Federation of Women’s Clubs Inc and the Commission on the Status of Women She served as past matron of the Order of Eastern Star Miriam Chapter
