Show SEPTEMBER 22, 1987 Locals are among winners of contests at State Fair amm WM& uoami By TOM HARALDSEN With the Utah State Fair preparing to wind down this weekend, the first group of competition fair winners have been named. The Fair continues through Sunday, with more winners names yet to come. Catherine Smith, a beauty from Sunset, was named third attendant in the queen contest. She will continue to reign over the Fair with Mary Chatterley, a nursing student from Cedar City, who was crowned Queen last Thursday. There was a definite lack of etiquette involved in the Fairs pieeating contest. With hands tied behind them, 15 contestants tried to be the first to consume a pie from Frontier Pies, and Jimmie Johnson of Clearfield was the winner in the j faftomgg) ms? pumice Lrunrmug-- 3 DAVIS COUNTYS 4 CRITICAL NEED AREAS IliAlcoKolisnT category. In the needlework and home handicraft category, Marilyn Toone of Farmington was a ner, receiving a quilt batt. Among winners in the win- and 4-- H FFA Rabbits Show was Matthew Williams of Bountiful, whose mini lop breed entry was awarded Best of Breed. The photography competition always gets a lot of attention, and as usual, Davis County had its share of winners. James Steele of Clearfield took second in professional portraitures, Clair Rawson of Layton was third in professional landscape, Dan Christensen of North Salt Lake second in professional pictorial unclassified, Val Payne of Layton fourth in Pro Am Human interest, and David Siemins of Layton took first place in Pro Am Still Life. In Pro Am Portrait, Payne took first place. Betty Ellis of Kaysville won top honors in amateur wildlife or nature, with Dale Thomas of Bountiful placing third in the same tea(CbiiElfli Ga? And among young amateur human interest entries, Marialana Holbrook of North Salt Lake took home first place. In the crafts competition, best in show winners included Ronald J. Read of Hooper in advanced Harry Wadley of Bountiful in advanced models, Nelda G. White of Bountiful in amateur miscellaneous, and Elaine Olney of Bountiful in handicapped division. In the floriculture first show , Edward F. Ritter of Kaysville won for best climber rose, an Americana. Margie S.
