Except for a quarantine period at New York City the birds came direct by air freight, according to Director J. Perry Egan. Director Egan went on to say that: We are pleased to get this first shipment of chukar partridge and are hopeful of receiving more of these birds in the near future. Acquisition of these fine birds by the department forms the basis for another attempt to find an up- land game bird that will be readily adaptable to the arid and semi- arid sections of our state. 12 of the original shipment of 100 birds are now at the Price Game Bird farm for conditioning and eventual planting in the Clear area. canyon Eight died in transit or soon after arrival. The above planting site was chosen a year ago as the terrain most 'similar to the birds natural habitat in Turkey. At that time Dr. Gardner E. Bump, U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist, in company with members of the department, made a survey of the states most likely areas for such plantings. Several other sites were chosen for planting as the chukar program Creek-Marysva- le j With Distinction V. Anyone wishing to go on the rides in their areas should contact the nearest Forest Service official, B L M,. or Fish and Games Department employee in that area. n I Utahs Wedding invitations and announcements printed by us have an indefinable air of grace and beauty. i .0 Very Reasonably Priced I waterfowl migratory populations have wintered exceptionally well. This information comes from Noland Nelson, biolo- -. gist in charge of the migratory waterfowl division for the Fish and Game Department. No loss of birds or marshes and refuges over the state has been noted. The early northern migration of ducks and geese has been slowed down by the recent cold weather. However, many geese are already in the vicinity of- their nesting grounds at Ogden Bay and the Bear River Refuge. A high water table, along with lecord augers well for a bet- ter than average nesting season this year, according to Mr. Nelson." He reminds sportsmen that na migratory waterfowl may be after March 9.
