| Show BANNOCK STAKE CONVER conference ENCE the quarterly conference of the bannock stake convened in the music hall rexburg Rex burg sunday and monday june 7 an and d 8 two meetings being held each day there were present elders john H smith of the council of the twelve and edward stevenson of the first council of seventies the stake presidency bishops ol of wards and a large attendance ot of saints from all parts ot the stake president ricks on the morning ot of the opening day reported the stake in a satisfactory condition notwithstanding the recent division of our stake we are growing rap rapidly ialy and have now seventeen wards and six branches which are all in full working order so are all our other organizations two new elders 11 quorums have been organized within the 4 last three months the people are improving I 1 in the observance of the word of wisdom and good health and prosperity per are attend attending inz us the chief speak speakers erh buting dm ing our conference were elders john H smith and edward stevenson they treated upon many subjects of great import to the saints a lew few 0 which were that w we e should seek to know god which is eternal life and man know thyself y having learned these things then shout should d we walk in the light of the knowledge thereof ample scriptural proof was given of thans mans existence in a state before the present probation that man originated from monkeys or frogs was successfully I 1 corti batted the part man has played in overturning law and order and the resulting chaos in the world was treated upon as also the introduction and progress of the gospel aspel in restoring peace and good goodwill wiil am among ong men the commotion among the elements and impending judgments were dwelt upon and the saints warned to be faithful laith ful in the observance ot of the laws and ordinances of the gospel powerful testimony was given as to the existence of a supreme being and ol 01 0 the divine authority of the work of the latter days dap principal cole of the stake academy spoke briefly upon the importance of education ion the school and fireside are the two great levers of education he desired parents to throng around their children the environment of the gospel the general and stake authorities were presented and unanimously sustained and home missionaries were called to labor during the next three months the choir under the leadership of professor durrans aided much in the success of the conference by rendering the songs of zion in a very appreciative manner benediction by elder eider edward stevenson JAMES GILLESPIE state clerk |
