The association has backed the aycoes through its pres dent, Eddis Talbot in the installation of the eighty large story book cutouts which have been mounted on the street light poles Spotlights have been mounted at each location to shine on the cut outs The mayor and city counul approved the installation and aie asMsting with the ilectrical hook up. Deserved credit goes to Bob Nichol and his assistants, Mr Fisher and Mr. Jackson, as these are the men who in the past have donated time and labor to the few lights we havehad. The project is the- - beginning of the development of BounMuls Story Book Lane which will be enlarged upon each year. It is a year end climax to the many accomplishments of the Business Mens group since its organization in May. Special appreciation is extended to Merk Christensen, who cut and printed the figures. He and Art Jolliffe worked late at nights and Sunday to accomplish this project, without remuneration. Thanks is also given to Capt. George Fadel of the Bountiful National guard for use of the armory in the making of the cutouts. Also in conjunction with the Jaycees, the Bountiful Business Mens Association helped make the "Miss Utah of 1949 reception a huge success with its cooperative hacking. The reception was held on August 20th in honor of Miss June Elizabeth Barlow from Bountiful Miss Utah of 1949. Three thousand persons, including Governor and Mrs. Lee, attended th:s popular social event which was a highlight of Miss Barlows reign as Utah beauty queen. Of particular interest to housewives of Bountiful is the statement by Mr. Holbrook today that if they are bothered by peddlers and salesmen they should report them immediately to the city office, telephone 243, unless they can show a Bountiful City license. The association has been instrumental this year in getting good enforcement of the city ordinance which prohibits peddlers and salesmen within the city limits without a license. It has not been the intent of the association to license out competition, but rather to maintain an equitable basis for the existing business houses who pay a yearly city and sometimes federal V cense to operate a business in the city of Bountiful, also to protect the housewives from annoyance. Since May the group has had 32 such persons brought to their athave been tention and which promptly reported to the city police department for appropriate action. "Help yourself and your neighbors this Christmas season by such nuisances to the city office at once, Mr. Holbrook said today in stating the accomplishments of the first years activity of this new Bountiful group, prin ciple object and accomplishment of which was the formation of a compact, workable and associaion, with their slogan of Build a Better BountifuL A new decal with inscription Bountiful Business Mens Association will soon appear on the doors of the various business houses, and trade with these firms is encouraged at all times by the public because these firms are taking an active interest, financially and physically in Bulding a Better Bountiful. Election of officers for the coming new year will take place on Tuesday, January 3, 1950, at Lees Cafe at 12:15 noon. A 100 per cent attendance is urged for the election and to give appreciation and thanks to the outgoing officers. G. A. English -- V 1 On School Board ' , ! V .1 --I.Si 1 oOo- Charlcs A. Larsen.
