Alton Nielson zn$v7m J, Alton Nielson, posthumous 1981 the recipient of the Ephraim, is Ephraim Rotary Clubs Service Above Self award. Erma Nielson accepted the award for her late husband from committee chair man Richard Olson, who said Nielson deserved recognition for his unselfish and humanitarian work in the Ephraim Alcoholics Anonymous program. Mr. Nielson was the Ephraim AA Chapters first chairman when it was organized on March 4, 1948. Since this early date," said Olson, Alton was involved in the lives of many people who sought his help. There were times when the continuation of the AA chapter seemed to be in doubt. It was the untiring work of Alton that saved the program." Several men testify that it was only with the help and support of Alton Nielson that they were able to get their lives in order and lead useful and productive lives. Olson noted that Mr. Nielson had also been involved in many other civic endeavors. He was a delegate to a national political convention, a prominent Ephraim cattle rancher, active in his church, and a good citizen. At the time of his death two months ago, Mr. Nielson was a member of the board of directors of the Central Utah Alcoholism Council.
