Madsen of 453 South Main Street, Manti, will be celebrating her 90th birthday on September 17th. resident of She is a life-tiManti except for a few years spent in Logan where her husband, Howard P. Madsen, was an instructor at Utah State Agricultural College. Elizabeth is one of 12 children born to Samuel and Sarah Mackey Davenport. She was born in a small house on the corner of 403 WestFirstNorth. When she was 12 years old her mother died and the older children were left to help their father care for the younger members of the family. While in her teens she obtained employment working for a Mrs. Fielding and later Mrs. Lucy Tennant who operated the Eating House across the railroad tracks west of the old Manti D & RG depot. Here she worked for $3.00 per week be- Manti Temple Setting for Olsen-Jeff- s Wedding The Manti Temple was the setting on August 10 for the wedding of Miss Eileen Olsen and Charles E. Jeffs. The ceremony was performedby William Van Bishop. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Ward Olsen of Ephraim and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Jeffs of Castle Dale. A reception honored the couple that evening at the Ephraim West Ward Cultural Hall. Serving the bride as maid of Births honor was the brides sister Helen. Bridesmaids included sisters of the groom, Char-maiand Clarine, and friends of the bride, Linda Nielson and Susan Stevenson. John Jensen performed the duties of best man. At the guest book was Miss Ilene Thomp- Posterity Grows Mr. Nels I. Olsen became for the 13th time on September 2 when his granddaughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. David (Rebecca) Slckler of Sandy became the parents of an 8 lb. 11 oz. baby girl. This child will be the 11th for Mr. and Mrs. Alma Larsen and the 3rd grandchild for Mr. and Mrs. Duwain (Ruth) Larsen of Sunset. a great-grandfat- great-grandch- ild Score Even Mr. and Mrs. Bruce (Linda) Findlay, Salt Lake City, announce the arrival of a daughter, Anne Marie, who was born September 5 in Salt Lake City. She weighed 9 lbs 2 12 oz. This is the second child for Bruce and Linda. They have a son, William. Grandparents for the second time are Mr. and Mrs. Ross Findlay, Ephraim andDr. Ralph Laycock, Orem. First Baby a Boy Mr. and Mrs. Max Reid of Fredonia, Arizona are the parents of a 7 lb. son who is their first child. He was born in the Kanab Hospital and spent the first 24 hours of his life in an incubator. The latest reports are that the baby and mother are doing very well. The baby will receive the name of Michael is the 13th grandchild for Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth (Vera) Reid (eight boys and five girls). Michael is the 5th grandchild for Mr. and Mrs. Kay Slade of Eager, Arizona. Leon. He ne ginning each morning at 6 a.m. and continuing on through the day and even into the night until the last freight train for that day had unloaded its hungry people. Two passenger trains stopped at the Manti depot each day at dinner time. The southbound train came at 12 noon and the northbound train came an hour later. It was Indeed a rush and lots of hard work at the Eating House to get the passengers fed during that one -- hour stop. Sometimes there would be as many as 100 people who would want to eat. Each day the menu variedbut always it consisted of homemade bread, butter, potatoes, gravy, plus a vegetable, with a desert of pudding, pie, or a piece of cake. Milk, tea, or coffee were also served with the meal. The cost: 50? per dinner. Mrs. Madsen was chosen as Miss Utah one 24th of July and participated in the parade down could steady herself and so she had quite a job to appear tall and stately. On July 31, 1907 she married Howard P. Madsen, who was also a native of Manti. (Later this marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.) He died Feb. 19, 1960. To them were born four daughters: Mrs. Alton (Bertrude) Evans, Logan; Mrs. Oscar (Naomi) Eklerg, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Kenneth (Mildred) Lindersmith, North Highlands, California; and Mrs. Jack (Marguerite) Van Lier, Tooele, Utah. Dr. Milton A. Madsen, Logan, and Frank Madsen, Manti, are also a part of her family. She has eight grandchildren and ten en. Some years of her life were spent working in the Relief Society of the Manti South Ward, but always she has been a dutiful wife and mother. She has many friends and all who know her love her for the fine person she Is. She is an excellent housekeeper and cook. She loves to have her home orderly and enjoys the beautiful. She is honest and dependable, always being thoughtful of others. Mrs. Madsens children are giving an open house in her honor at her residence next Sunday, September 15, between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m. All her neighbors, relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The bride designed her empire waist gown which featured nylon organza with lace applique. Small seed pearls accentuated the lace down the front bodice, at the cuff of the long sleeves, and on the lace down the front and around the bottom of the skirt. Her veil was three-tierand floor length caught into lace and pearl tiera. The brides bouquet was yellow roses and white carnations. The bridesmaids wore full length dresses in yellow and orange, some floral prints and some plain. They carried a single long stemmed marigold. The mothers orange crepe dresses were floor length. The bride and groom are making their home in Vernal. Wyoming. The new bride teaches school near North Ridge, California. Mrs. Lowell brought three of her children to Utah to attend school. Kent and Lori will attend BYU and Bryant will attend Utah State University. A daughter of the Lloyd Paulsens, Neon, will attend BYU. Mrs. Caroline Paulsen also has three other grandchildren attending the University of Utah this year. Arabian physicians recommended balm for hypochondria.
