Show Vocational Courses Offered EPHRAIM ENTERPRISE 15, 1974 MANTI MESSENGER Thursday, August The Snow College Area Vocational Center located in Manti will be starting this coming school year with lour new proposed course offerings which are expected to be available to all high school juniors and seniors in North Sanpete, South Sanpete and Juab School Districts and Wasatch Academy. The courses offered last year were: Welding, Mobile Home Automotive Construction, Technology, Electronics, Medical Careers, Retail Sales and Specials August 15, 16, 17 MEATS FARM FRESH FRYERS, Grown in Utah, NO Additives or preservatives, 59c Cut Up, Lb 56c Whole, Lb CHUCK ROAST, U.S.D.A., 83c Choice Beef, Lb BACON, High Quality, 73c Sliced, Lb Management. Retail Sales and Management course has been discontinued and the following courses are expected to be added: Radio Broadcasting, Ambulance Attendant, Graphic Arts, Commercial Pilot Training. A new radio station which is part of the Radio Broadcasting course is located at North Sanpete High School. The station is KMTP-- F M and will be broadcasting 10 watts on 91.1 MC. The listening area will cover most of North and South Sanpete county. Tentative programming for this station will Include musical entertainment and high school sports coverage. The Snow College Area Vocational Center has been established by North Sanpete, South Sanpete and Juab School Districts, Wasatch Academy, and Snow College to provide high school and college level vocational training to 11th and 12th grade students during the regular high school year. The vocational courses offered by the center at Snow College are given during the regular school day and become a part of the students high school schedule. Free daily bus transportation is provided to and from the college where the courses are offered at no cost to the students. Regular high school credit andor Snow College Area Vocational Center credit is given to the student upon completion of the course. This credit may be applied toward high school graduation and with approval, post secondary requirements. The purpose of vocational courses is to train students so that when they enter the labor market, they will have a marketable skill . Vocational courses do not replace academic courses, but Instead help to round out the students education. It is now the direction of public education to encourage high school students to graduate from high school with a vocational skill as well as academic training. Vocational education also differs from Industrial Arts courses. Vocational courses are generally taught two straight hours each school day and are taught only by instructors who have had years of actual on the job experience in the course they teach. The students are given meaningful training by these instructors which will be required by future Course certifiemployers. cates, given by these special vocational instructors are recognized by most employers. Industrial Arts courses, on the other hand, are intended to give students in the lower grades only a sampling of the vocational areas. Then when a student finds a field that interests him he will be able to decide which vocational course he would like to complete. She was born March 1, 1906, in Ephraim to A. W. and Elizabeth James Jensen. She married Lee Buttle June 29, 1933 in Ephraim. Mrs. Buttle was the author of Economic History of Utah, and Background Materials Methods for the Teacher, Six SJcLegintdng Research, and Utah Grows, a Pre-UtUtah History, and Utah Grows, Past and Present. She also taught school in Mount Pleasant, Spanish Fork, Tooele and Provo. Mrs. Buttle served In various positions in church, educational and civic organizations. Burial was in Salt Lake City Cemetery where the grave was dedicated by Udell R. Jensen.
