She has a quiet but Creative soft-spoke- contagious Louise Lawrence Nature Vacation Spots by Louise Lawrence Many ecology-minde- d vacationers find that conservation goes hand, in hand with recreation. They take their vacations with groups fielded by the Wilderness Society, the National Wildlife Federation or the Sierra Club, among others. The Sierra Club, a pioneer in ecological understanding, offers a wide variety of trips devoted to cleanups and maintenance. Most of those trips are held in areas of the National Wilderness Preservation System or in proposed wilderness areas, or national parks. All service trips feature comparatively low prices, as the fee charged to participants is subsidized by the Outing Committee. Trip size usually is from IS to 25, including staff and a volunteer physician. For detailed information on the many service trips available, and other outing programs, contact: The Outing Manager, Dept. Sierra Club S30 Bush St., San Francisco, CA 94108. Camping can be expen-siv- e or cheap, depending on how many of the creature comforts you want or need. If you are hardy, you might like to hike along a mountain trail or shoot the rapids in a canoe. These wilderness adventures are not for the fainthearted or the unprepared; dont overestimate yourself. For information contact the National Park Service or local, state and national wilderness and conservation groups. You can also pick up brochures and advice at sporting and camping stores and through specialty magazines.
