Two outstanding performing groups are in the Sanpete County area this week in connection with the Smithsonian Institutes Arts of Latin America exhibit. Ramos Nuevos, four native Bolivians, performed folk music for South Sanpete School District students Monday and Tuesday. They appeared in the North Sanpete District Wednesday and today and will entertain when the exhibit opens Friday at the Lucy A. Phillips Library on the Snow College campus. Ramos Nuevos, two of whose members are LDS converts, perform in their native costumes with authentic native instruments. These instruments include guitars made from armadillo shells and sheep hooves made into primitive instruments. C. The Bolivian and theater groups are both appearing under the sponsorship of the Sanpete Fine Arts Council and Snow College during the Smithsonian Institute exhibit. The exhibit opens Friday and continues through May 5. Beginning Monday it will be open to the public on Mondays through Fridays from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 3 to 9 p.m. Groups who would like special tours can schedule them with Dr. David Haymond at the college. Ralph Starr, who was Manti High School principal for two years before accepting an appointment at Southern Utah State College in 1975, has been appointed assistant vice president for academic affairs at the Cedar City school. Will Sponsor Recital Three noted organists of the area will be featured in an organ recital sponsored by the Sanpete County Chapter of the Utah Music Teachers Association. Those participating will be Doreen Kurr, Donnell Blackham, and Ronald Richardson. All have graduated from Brigham Young University in the field of organ performance and were recently invited to participate in a recital honoring their former teacher, J. J. Keeler, on the event of his retirement. Miss Kurr, who also holds a doctorate in the field of organ performance from the University of Washington, has concertized in Canada, in the East, and also in Washington and Salt Lake City. Both Mr. Blackham and Mr. Richardson have the Nephi School of Music and are well known in musical circles for their outstanding work. The program will feature outstanding works of the organ repertory, including works of Bach and Mendelssohn. Deputy Buchanan called on the Sanpete County Search and Rescue, the Skyline Snowmobile Association, the State Park Service, Manti City police, the Forest Service and other local people to cooperate in mounting a rescue operation. Teams were quickly organized, given assignments and in a very short time were moving onto Manti Mountain.
