If This weekend cultural differences come together to celebrate diversity at the 2006 Living Traditions Festival in Salt Lake City. The Festival will be this Friday, Saturday and Sunday with all day festivities, crafts, food and performances. In addition to the local many performing groups presented at Living Traditions Festival, Friday and Saturday nights bring honored featured artists to the North Stage. This year, the Living Traditions Festival pays tribute to the many artists affected, and many still recovering, from the hurricanes that hit the gulf coast in 2005 by presenting two of the most dynamic bands hailing from Louisiana. The legendary Cajun band. BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet, takes tire stage on Friday night at 8:00 p.m., and the second line New Orleans sound of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band will showcase on Saturday night, also at 8 p.m. Dance and music are invaluable components of the human experience and every culture uses them not only is a means of expression, bm as also communication between generations. The performing artists are at tk heart of the 2006 Living Traditions Festival. The two performan. stages are central to the Living Traditions experience with three days of performances from nearly 50 diffei-en- t ethnic groups and traditions. The exhibit consists of 30 self-po- i traits created in different kinds of art work such as painting sculpture and photography. Participating artixis have been chosen by the Utah Arts Festival staff and the staff of the Gallery at Library Square based on their reputation and a big range. They tried to find a diversity of artists based on their age, gender, and for this experience exhibit, said Howard Brough, the manager of the Gallery. All 30 artists featured are Utah artists, mostly from Salt Lake City area, only a few are outsiders.
