Sean Stephenson and Tyler Jones each singled in the first and second innings, respectively. 6-- 2 and Dan Cuvelier doubled of the left center fence in the third inning. However, effective Northern Cal fielding and pitching left each Utah baserunner stranded without scoring. That changed in the sixth inning. REGISTER TO WIN ! team effort is a lot of people doing exactly what I Rick Majerus say." People are busy this time of the year building teams. High schools try to make football teams by practicing twice a day. The colleges are having running drills that would kill the Marine Corps. NBA franchises are busy buying players from other teams. All the NBA teams in the west look stronger. On paper, the Jazz look bad. Most teams have strengthened themselves. The Jazz have done nothing. They cant even sign Shandon Anderson. Portland traded Isiah Rider and Jimmy Jackson, two malcontents, to Atlanta for Steve Smith, one of the best players in the league. That makes them the automatic favonte. The Blazers already beat the Jazz last year. They look much stronger. traded Phoenix for Penny Hardaway. They now have two of the best guards in captivity. They are certain to be a factor in the league. The Jazz guards dont match up too well against Kidd and Hardaway. Every time the Phoenix fellas blow by Stockton and Hornacek. Our guys will look older. Young legs seem to be the answer. The Lakers are always improving their team. They seem to have unlimited money. No one on earth can match up with Shaq. Too big and too strong. If the going gets tough when they play the Jazz, Shaq will simply slap Ostertag and he will disappear for another sea son. Shaquille makes Greg look like somebodys little brother, like a kid who snuck into the game, or like someone who really shouldnt be there. The Jazz dont match up well with Los Angeles. No one can stay with Kobe. On paper, were dead. San Antonio, the reigning cham- pion, makes all other teams look mediocre. The "Twin Towers are awesome. No one can stay with them. Tim Duncan is by far the best player in the league. I know Malone has the MVP trophy, but lets be reasonable, Duncan is the man. No one can defend against him. The man has total game! So, on paper, things look pretty bleak for the Jazz. They always stand pat and resist change. How long will Hornacek s knees bend? Real superstar? Will Anderson come back or go into infinity? Will Karl Malone pump enough iron to compete with the big boys? Will Tim Duncan get hurt? On paper, thats our only change. SIMONS SAYS: "If the Jazz sign Will Perdue, that will give Ostertag a big, slow guy to go against in practice. SIMONS S YS: "The Jazz are starting to smell old. Jesse Nichol and Tyler Jones offenignited the Utah sive with consecutive singles.
